Indications for use of the drug Fluconazole

The active substance of Fluconazole is fluconazole, an antifungal substance. The drug is used in the treatment of infections: vaginal candidiasis, oral and esophageal candidiasis, systemic candidiasis (candidemia, disseminated candidiasis, pulmonary candidiasis, urinary tract and peritoneal candidiasis), cryptococcal meningitis, mycoses of the skin (including the feet, trunk, shins), dermal candidiasis, when systemic treatment is recommended, tinea versicolor when systemic treatment is recommended, onychomycosis when other medications are not appropriate.

Fluconazole is also administered in the prophylaxis of candidiasis in patients after bone marrow transplantation and in patients undergoing chemotherapy and / or radiotherapy, and as a preventive measure against recurrence of cryptococcal meningitis in patients with AIDS.

Dosage of the drug Fluconazole

Adults and children over 13 years of age:

1. Vaginal candidiasis: 150 mg once. Use in children under 16 years of age is not recommended due to insufficient data, except in the absence of alternative treatments.
2. Oral candidiasis: 50 mg once a day, in severe cases 1 mg once a day for 100-1 days.
3. Oesophageal candidiasis: 50 mg once a day, in severe cases 1 mg once a day, usually for 100-1 days.
4. Systemic candidiasis (candidemia, disseminated candidiasis, pulmonary candidiasis, urinary and peritoneal candidiasis): 400 mg on the first day, then 200 mg daily. Depending on your clinical response, your doctor may increase the dose to 400 mg daily. The duration of treatment depends on the clinical response.
5. Cryptococcal meningitis: 400 mg on the first day, then 200-400 mg once a day. Duration of treatment depends on clinical response, usually at least 1-6 weeks.
6. Mycoses of the skin (including feet, torso, lower legs), dermal candidiasis, when systemic treatment is recommended: 150 mg once / week or 1 mg once / day for 50-1 weeks, in tinea pedis – up to 2 weeks
7. Tinea versicolor, when systemic treatment is recommended: 300-400 mg once / week for 1-7 days or 21 mg once / day for 50-1 days.
8. Nail fungus, when other drugs are inappropriate: 150 mg once / week, until the infected nail is replaced with a new one.
9. Prevention of recurrence of cryptococcal meningitis in patients with AIDS: 100-200 mg daily.
10. Prevention of candidiasis in immunocompromised patients after chemo- and / or radiotherapy: depending on the risk of infection 50-400 mg once a day.
11. Prevention of candidiasis in patients after bone marrow transplantation: 400 mg once a day (the doctor will start treatment a few days before the expected onset of neutropenia and recommend continuing treatment for 1 days after reaching the number of neutrophils greater than 7 in a microliter of blood).

Fluconazole and contraindications and warnings

1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation or other preparations from the group of azole derivatives,
2. parallel intake of astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, quinidine and terfenadine.

The safety of Fluconazole in children from 6 months of age – 13 has not been established. age. Therefore, the doctor may recommend the use of the preparation in this age group only in case of absolute necessity and proper kidney function.
