Flucofast is a drug used to treat a variety of fungal infections. You can catch an infection in the swimming pool or in the sauna, and its symptoms are very bothersome. Flucofast fights these infections, however, it has many possible side effects. Use in infants, children and adolescents is possible only in special cases.

Flucofast – characteristics

Flucofast is an antifungal drug that contains the active substance fluconazole. This drug belongs to the group of triazole derivatives and is intended for general use. The active ingredient in Flucofast is fluconazole. Infection with fungi can occur anywhere. Most often they occur in swimming pools, saunas and gyms. Bothersome symptoms of infection, such as burning and itching, Flucofast will help.

Flucofast – indications

Flucofast can be used to treat fungal infections in adults. This drug should be introduced in case of infection:

  1. cryptococcal meningitis,
  2. coccidioidomycosis, or California valley fever,
  3. strong candidiasis,
  4. mucous membranes by yeasts, such as throat infections,
  5. oral yeast when inflammation is chronic and local treatment is not enough,
  6. female and male genital yeasts – in acute or recurrent form, when local treatment does not work,
  7. skin fungi, when systemic treatment should be introduced,
  8. nail fungus.

Flucofast can also be used to prevent the appearance of certain fungal infections.

In the case of children and adolescents up to 17 years of age (including newborns and infants), treatment with Flucofast is indicated:

  1. in the treatment of yeast infection of the mucous membranes,
  2. invasive candidiasis,
  3. cryptococcal meningitis,
  4. prophylaxis of yeast infections in patients with weakened immunity,
  5. prophylaxis of recurrence of cryptococcal meningitis in children at high risk of recurrence.

Treatment can be started before the diagnostic test results are obtained.

Flucofast – contraindications

Flucofast is a drug that cannot be used by everyone. It is worth getting acquainted with the list of contraindications to its use. Contraindication to the use of Flucofast is:

  1. hypersensitivity to the active substance or any component of the drug,
  2. administration of fluconazole in doses higher than 400 mg per day,
  3. the use of drugs that prolong the QT interval that are metabolized by cytochrome P450, such as cisapride, astemizole, pimozide, quinidine and erythromycin.

Flucofast – side effects

The most common side effects resulting from the use of Flucofast include:

  1. headache and stomach ache
  2. diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
  3. increase in blood levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), blood alkaline phosphatase,
  4. rash, itching, hives.

In addition, asthenia, disturbances in appetite, sleep, convulsions, paresthesia, changes in taste, dizziness, digestive system disorders (e.g. constipation), dry mouth, cholestasis, jaundice, high bilirubin levels, excessive sweating, muscle pain, fatigue are also possible. , feeling unwell, fever.

Less commonly, after taking Flucofast, anaphylaxis, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, neutropenia, elevated blood cholesterol, elevated blood triglycerides, low blood potassium, liver failure, liver cell necrosis, tremors, hepatitis, liver cell damage, Stevens syndrome and Johnson’s syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, acute generalized pustular rash, exfoliative dermatitis, as well as angioedema or alopecia.

Flucofast during pregnancy and breastfeeding

During pregnancy, it is recommended not to use any medication without first consulting a doctor! Before taking any medicine while pregnant or breastfeeding, it is a good idea to talk to your doctor to explain the potential risks and benefits of using the medicine.

Flucofast crosses the placenta and into breast milk, therefore it should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Breast-feeding may be continued after a single dose of 200 mg Flucofast or less. However, breastfeeding is not recommended if you take multiple doses of Flucofast.

The dosage of Flucofast is determined by the attending physician and it is very important to strictly follow his recommendations. The dose of Flucofast depends on why it was given and the age of the patient.
