The backyard or summer cottage will look cozier and more attractive if they are decorated with flowers. A variety of wooden flower beds will advantageously transform the space, giving it a well-groomed look, organizing it and visually dividing it into separate areas where you can grow different plants. They are quite simple to make with your own hands, if you have the desire and basic skill.
Advantages of wooden structures
Products for flowers, ideal for giving, may vary in shape, size, height. At the same time, wooden flower beds should be approximately the same height as the plants being planted. DIY flower products made of wood have a number of advantages.
In particular:
- such designs for flowers are quite simple to make on their own;
- the material is available and has a low cost, is present in abundance in the country;
- it is possible to change their color by repainting at any time;
- eco-friendly material;
- in the case of tree decomposition, the soil receives additional nutrients;
- practically do not freeze in the winter and do not overheat in the scorching summer sun;
- very beautifully in the country combined with wooden houses;
- material organically and effectively complements the flower garden.
So that moisture does not prematurely destroy the product, the material must first be impregnated with an antiseptic composition, which will prevent wood decay and protect against insects. Finished product options
To enclose places for flowers, you can use ready-made decorative fences or wood borders, thus forming functional areas. They look natural in the country. It is advisable to maintain a single style in the design – then the entire site will look harmonious and beautiful. Fences can be of different heights – from 5 cm (to separate the flower garden from the path) to 50 cm (to protect flowers from animals and children).
In addition, a fence dug into the ground does not allow perennials to “spread” beyond its limits. To install finished products with your own hands, it is necessary to dig in columns at a short distance (along the width of the section) and screw individual sections of the fence to them with self-tapping screws. Do not forget to pre-apply varnish or paint on them – this will increase the life of a homemade flower bed.
Pegs option
The way to create a fence for flowers from pegs is the easiest. First, the bark is peeled off from them, then they are sawn into blanks of the desired length. Outline the contours of the future flower bed, measure its length. Focusing on this value, prepare the appropriate amount of material. Each peg is treated with a special antiseptic composition and varnished. When they dry up, they dig a narrow trench along the contour of the flower bed with an average depth of 15-25 cm (depending on the height of the workpiece). Then, in turn, peg after peg is placed in a trench and buried.
The height is adjusted with a hammer, the ground should be well tamped. The final stage of creating a do-it-yourself product from pegs is painting. If you want to keep the natural wood tone, just apply another layer of varnish.
Flowerbed from solid logs
Another of the simple ways to organize a place for flowers in a summer cottage is from solid logs. This option looks especially harmonious and stylish if the house is wooden. To make such a design with your own hands, it is necessary to select a material of approximately the same diameter. Then they cut out the required length, remove the bark from the logs and lay out a fence for flowers from them. The logs pre-treated with an antiseptic composition are covered with dark varnish. Such a hand-made flower garden will wonderfully fit into the bright green foliage.
A small option from the bars
The way to organize a flower garden from blocks is also quite simple. To create it, you will need bars 30 (50) cm long. To begin with, we mark the place under the flower bed with pegs: we lay out four bars of the same length with an edge on a flat earthen area (it turns out a square) – there will be a future flower bed. We attach them inside with the help of self-tapping screws in the corners of the box. We prepare grooves for digging in the bars, install the structure there and bury it in the ground, tamping it well. Before creating a structure from blocks with your own hands, do not forget to treat the material with antiseptic impregnation, varnish or paint so that the flower garden pleases the eye for as long as possible.
Flower bed
This design can be placed not only on the ground, but also hung on the wall of the house, for example. It will give “volume” to the surrounding space. Such a spectacular “pot” is also quite easy to make with your own hands. Moreover, the shape can vary – from the usual rectangular or square to pyramidal. To make it, prepare bars and boards of different lengths.
First, the frame is knocked down and boards of the same width are nailed onto it. The pyramid flowerpot is created from top to bottom – from long to short details. The workpiece for eliminating holes is nailed inside the structure. In addition, the finished product is sheathed from the inside with a special waterproof material, the fabric is pierced at the bottom to eliminate excess moisture.
Flower bed-sandbox
A sandbox flower bed will look no less impressive in the country. To make it, you will need bars, boards, varnish. Using boards, they make a structure similar to a children’s sandbox. The width of the edging can be 10-15 cm and outwardly resemble a bench. The design is installed in the same way as in the previous versions, the tree is also processed in a similar way. In finished form, it can be decorated with multi-colored paints.
