When is it customary to celebrate a holiday
A wedding, an anniversary, a romantic meeting or just a memorable date – none of these events is complete without a bouquet of flowers, and it has always been like this, from time immemorial. Although the holiday itself – Florist’s Day – is very young. It started in 2009, when the Floristic Union of Our Country managed to make a real breakthrough, solving the most important organizational tasks of the industry. The state registration of the profession “florist” was carried out, a list of basic requirements for this activity was developed, a nationwide platform was launched – the All- Forum of Florists. And most importantly, a single holiday date has been officially fixed – July 24, the most sultry and marked by a riot of vegetable colors of summer months in Our Country. At this time, everyone can really become the owner of the most beautiful bouquet of wild flowers, what is called “the florist for oneself”.
history of the holiday
Love for flowers originated in antiquity. Hindus, for example, believed that flowers were born not for the sake of beauty and aroma, but in order to give them to loved ones. Many flowers were attributed a divine origin, legends were composed about them. Lily, lotus, aster, gladiolus, daffodil… Each of them has its own romantic story. One of the oldest types of decoration was the wreath. In ancient Rome, for example, a person who appeared at a party without a wreath of roses simply ceased to be respected. So the first florists can be safely considered Roman girls, who perfectly mastered the art of artistic coloring.
Weaving wreaths was also practiced in Our Country, they played a big role in the ancient Slavic rites. Well, in later eras, when flowers were not just collected, but skillfully grown, Europe, and after it the whole world, was captured by a real flower fever. Homes were decorated with compositions from various plants, they were worn in buttonholes by men and women, they were given with or without reason – while there were classic French, English, German, American and other bouquets … And what range of feelings could be conveyed with the help of flowers – from admiration and love to anger and hatred!
Modern traditions
Today, floristry is considered one of the arts, it is a profession that requires great creativity, as well as considerable knowledge and skills. For example, the basics of such serious sciences as botany, soil science, and agricultural chemistry will help to carry out proper plant care. To make a harmonious bouquet, it turns out, is possible only guided by the rule of the basic proportions of the “golden section”. Well, in order to create unique, impressive compositions, you need a subtle artistic taste and creativity.
Now, by the way, there is a fashion to create original candy-flower and flower-toy variants of bouquets. In a word, a florist in the modern world is a professional creator who is in constant search, possessing genuine talents and resourcefulness.
florists celebrate their professional holiday in different ways: they hold master classes within the walls of their salons or arrange exhibitions of the best works. And what a great variety of colors! Today, at the peak of popularity, peonies and buttercups, violets and asters, tulips and, of course, the incomparable rose at all times. Many people visit florists “at the light” – some just to admire their new creations, and some take the opportunity to purchase for themselves another colorful bouquet in which a part of the master’s soul lives.
What is the complexity of the work of a florist
The work of a florist is quite physically stressful – some bouquets reach a weight of several kilograms, and, when collecting, they have to be held at arm’s length, and there are periods when they work in a flower shop almost without rest. A bouquet, of course, is not an essential item, but sometimes a fragrant present can be really “deeply” needed at any time of the day or night. First of all, of course, this is the traditional “hands on call” of the flower industry in Our Country on the eve of March 8th. February 14 is also Valentine’s Day. And also for Christmas, which has also become very fashionable.
There are a couple of unpleasant moments in the profession of a florist. Firstly, some flowers with a strong smell – hyacinth, oriental lily – can give you a headache. Flowers with pollen, such as matthiols, are often allergic. But it is much worse that the “overseas” tulips from Holland, treated with chemicals, burn the hands of flower girls in the strongest way. So remember these costs of the profession and appreciate the work of people who create beauty and festive mood for us.
