Flirtatious body language: what gestures turn men and women on?

Body language allows us to express our feelings and desires without resorting to ordinary words. So, there are at least 50 signals with which we can demonstrate our interest in another person. We will talk about the most popular (but not always obvious).

Female Signals

  • Smile shyly. Remember the look on Mona Lisa’s face? Smiling mysteriously, turning her head to the side and slightly tilting it down, the woman creates a somewhat “shy” image. But she does not lower her eyes, but confidently looks forward to meet the eyes of those who interest her. This gesture says one thing: “I am vulnerable, but open to you.”
  • Pull back the hair. This gesture is often seen in cinema: the heroine throws her head back in slow motion, her long hair fluttering. It works because, firstly, it attracts attention with the movement itself, and secondly, it conveys to the partner the natural smell of hair (a kind of pheromone) or perfume.
  • Touch the skin. When a woman gently and as if accidentally touches her face, neck or thigh, she “says” that touching is desirable for her. And also sends a signal: “Look how smooth my skin is.”
  • Show wrist. “Opening” to another person that part of the hands that is usually hidden from his sight, we also show him our interest. And as if we are saying: “I approve of you, you can come closer.”

Male Signals

  • Take a relaxed posture. When a man is open, that is, he does not cross his arms or legs, it speaks of his self-confidence. And, at least, that he does not want to “close” from you. Not for nothing, a study of speed dating (in which men only have 5 minutes to impress women) showed that men in open positions received more dating offers than those in a closed position.
  • Take up more space. It is believed that women are most often attracted to men who tend to take up more space – both in postures and gestures. This expresses their desire to dominate – a popular item on the list of exciting traits for women. Of course, we are not talking about bad manners here: no one will seem attractive to someone who occupies the entire sofa with himself or spreads his legs across the width of the room. However, the man who shyly hides in the corner is also unattractive.
  • Move smoothly. Not twitchy, sharp and unexpected, but measured and unhurried movements and gestures, as when being under water – that’s what attracts attention. So the man shows that he is in control of the situation.

Male and female

Are men not attracted by the relaxed posture of women, and the latter by a masculine smile? Naturally, everything is purely individual and it cannot be said that each signal is tightly fixed to one gender. In addition, there are signals that absolutely everyone is interested in:

  • Voice change. Most often it is a higher tone in women and a lower tone in men. The change in the female voice awakens in the man the desire to “protect” his partner, and the deep male voice signals the woman about the masculinity of its owner. True, you should not get too carried away in this way – it is embarrassing when a person tries to give a voice a timbre that is not characteristic of him.
  • Positivity. Although both the sad Pierrot and the thoughtful Nesmeyana have fans, most people still prefer those who create a positive image. After all, often both men and women explain their refusal to communicate with anyone with one phrase: “Yes, he doesn’t like everything, sheer negativity.”
