Flegamina Baby is a mucolytic expectorant that helps clear secretions from the respiratory tract. It facilitates expectoration and also cleans the bronchi of unnecessary mucus. This is due to the depolarization of polysaccharides in the residual secretion and the stimulation of the mucous glands to produce neutral polysaccharides – as opposed to the acid ones, which cause retention.

The indications for the use of the preparation are inflammation of the respiratory tract, problems with contamination with secretions and chronic conditions of mucus expectoration disorders.

Flegamina Baby – composition

The drug contains bromhexine hydrochloride (bromhexini hydrochloridum) and is sold over the counter in the form of oral drops. 1 ml of solution contains 2 mg of the active ingredient, as well as ethanol at a concentration of 96%, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, hydrochloric acid, propyl parahydroxybenzoate and purified water.

The composition of the preparation was adapted to the needs of children with a specific disease for which Flegamin Baby is administered.

Baby flegamina – contraindications

Even if the use of the drug in a child is indicated, caution should be exercised in the case of children under two years of age. Careful dosing is recommended and careful monitoring is recommended, especially because of the inability of the child to communicate undesirable side effects of the drug.

Contraindications include people allergic to any component of the preparation (active or auxiliary), suffering from gastric and duodenal ulcer disease and severe liver or kidney disorders, because Flegamina Baby is a mucolytic preparation that can damage the gastric mucosa. For the same reason, it is also possible to develop skin disorders such as a rash or eczema. If the side effects worsen, stop taking the drug and contact your doctor immediately.

Due to the content of ethanol, Flegamina Baby may cause headaches, dizziness and drowsiness, which may impair the ability to drive vehicles.

In the event of an overdose, give activated charcoal and contact your doctor immediately.

The preparation should not be used in the first trimester of pregnancy. In the remaining stages of pregnancy, a doctor should be consulted because of the alcohol content in the drops. Due to the lack of studies on the penetration of the active substance into breast milk, the preparation is not recommended during lactation.

Flegamina Baby – dosage and recommendations

The dosage of Flegamina Baby should be adjusted to the age of the child. In the case of people under 2 years of age, special care should be taken and the leaflet attached to the product should be read carefully. Babies between 3 and 6 months of age should take 10 drops 2 times a day. The recommended dose for children up to 2 years of age is 10 drops 3 times a day, and for children under 6 years of age it is 20-25 drops 3 times a day. Baby phlegm should be taken at regular intervals, preferably after a meal. Do not exceed use for more than 10 consecutive days.

The drug should not be administered immediately before going to bed.

Adequate hydration is recommended while taking the drug. Taking more fluids helps to thin the bronchial secretions and helps to expectorate the mucus.

Baby Flegamina – side effects

Each drug has possible side effects. In the case of Flegamina Baby, these are skin complications caused by too high a dose of the drug, as well as vomiting reflexes and abdominal pain due to too long use of the preparation. The following may or may not occur: drop in blood pressure, diarrhea, sweating, rash, indigestion, drowsiness, itching, dizziness and headache, bronchospasm in case of hyperalgesia to the active substance, anaphylactic reactions that are life-threatening (for example shock anaphylactic reaction), swelling of the face making it difficult to breathe, skin hives.

Use in parallel with another preparation

Inform your doctor about taking all medications, even those available at the pharmacy without a prescription. Some preparations that are not recommended for use in parallel with Flegamina Baby are: atropine, cholinolytic drugs (they work in the opposite way to Flegamina), and antitussive preparations (preventing expectoration of secretions). Since taking this drug may irritate the gastric mucosa, it should be remembered that it also increases the irritating effect of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and salicylates. It enhances the action of erythromycin, ampicillin, doxycycline, cefuroxime, amoxicillin, tetracyclines and their concentration in lung tissue.
