The cause of bloating can lie in different parts of the digestive system, usually the ailment is in the area of ​​​​the stomach and the upper or side parts of the abdomen. Very often, severe symptoms make themselves felt in the lower abdomen – this is a sign that the problem lies in the small intestine or large intestine.

A bloated stomach gives clear symptoms in the form of an enlarged abdomen. As a rule, the condition occurs after eating a certain group of foods (in solid or liquid form). In general, the symptom is the result of overeating or is due to eating too quickly and swallowing a lot of air with subsequent bites. Stomach bloating occurs, for example, after eating a large meal, which includes a large portion of carbohydrates and fats. In such situations, you should seek medical advice and exclude more serious causes of the ailment.

Flatulence of the small or large intestine

In the case of bloating of the small intestine, a doctor’s consultation must not be delayed – there may be an obstruction or paralysis of the intestines and surgical intervention is necessary. The condition often affects small patients – it accompanies some infectious diseases, e.g. angina, ear inflammation or viral infection of the digestive system.

Bloating of the large intestine can be particularly troublesome because it is associated with overproduction of gases. Specific foods generally lead to colon bloating, especially meals high in carbohydrates and starches. Flatulence is not uncommon – patients of all ages suffer from it. If they occur sporadically, they are not a cause for concern. However, if they tend to recur, occur very often and are painful, dietary modification should be considered first. You should eat five meals a day, prepare smaller portions and eat in peace, taking your time. Rush is associated with more air swallowed and contributes to the occurrence of ailments. It is also worth reducing the amount of dairy in the diet, as well as limiting products rich in salt or sugar. It must not be forgotten that bloating can be caused by food intolerances, water shortages in the body and stress.

People who suffer from flatulence should give up carbonated drinks and enrich meals with herbs and spices that support digestive processes. You can add caraway seeds, marjoram, mint, sage, ginger, thyme, basil, bay leaves to dishes, which emphasize the taste of dishes and allow you to reduce the amount of salt in dishes. Bloating is also relieved by herbal infusions – it is worth reaching for an infusion of cumin or fennel.
