Flat method

For fishing on the feeder, different feeders are used. Flat fishing using the feeder method involves the use of a flat variety. This is due to the peculiarities of the preparation of bait, fishing tactics. Usually such fishing is practiced in stagnant water bodies, but sometimes they are caught in the current.

What is flat feeder fishing? This is the way to fish with a flat feeder. It has a lower laden part in the form of a plane, and an open one on top, from which the food is washed out. The flat bottom part does not sink on the silted bottom and allows the feed to be washed out on its surface.

As you know, a flat feeder came from carp fishing. Carp tackle has several fundamental differences from feeder:

  1. The feeder is attached to the leadcore. This gives a good presentation, it lies clearly on the muddy bottom with the entire plane.
  2. The leash is rigidly fixed with a swivel to the feeder through the connector. The fish does not have free movement, and when biting, it is forced to pull the feeder off the bottom. In most cases, this is self-cutting.
  3. For fishing, a hook with a boilie and a hair rig is used. This is the main feature that distinguishes carp fishing from any other.
  4. When casting, the hook is inserted into the filled feeder. This eliminates the overlap of the leash during the cast.
  5. After the feeder has sunk to the bottom, the feed is washed out. Boyle, freed from food, emerges and stays upright. So it is well visible to fish.

The story of

Boilie fishing originated in England. The nozzle and the hook in it are connected with hair, the hook hangs in the water column separately from the nozzle. This mounting allows the carp to eat the bait and then swallow the hook. If the hook is inside the boilie, then the carp can spit it out, feeling a foreign body. There are strong suspicions that this kind of fishing comes from China. Carp there is the most typical inhabitant of rivers and lakes.

Tackle with a divided hook and nozzle was described in the anthology “Fisherman-sportsman” in the article “Catching carp on the line”, which indicates that on the Amur, Iman, Ussuri rivers, carp are caught in this way by local residents. The British may well have adopted the method of fishing from the Chinese, having met him during the Opium Wars. The bite mechanism is described in great detail in the article – the carp takes a bait into its mouth on a tether tied to a hook, then it swallows it, and the hook throws it over the gills like a foreign body and sits on it very securely.

The main differences from the main feeder fishing

The main difference between feeder gear and carp gear is the presence of some free movement of the fishing line relative to the sinker lying on the bottom. In any feeder installation, the fish has the opportunity, having taken the nozzle, to make a movement without lifting the load. As a result, the tip of the feeder moves, and the angler makes a cut. Such fishing allows you to catch not only large fish that can pull off the load from the bottom, but also smaller ones. And you can also use this method of fishing in the current with a heavy sinker. A lot about the equipment was said on the forums, in the video on YouTube. The most detailed information could be obtained at seminars with Sergei Popov.

The main purpose of flat feeder fishing is crucian carp. It is very similar in habits to carp, but is picky about baits, often takes on animals and even fry. The classic carp tackle is rough for him, but the feeder with a flat feeder is very suitable. You can use both ordinary feeders and other variations on this theme – banjo, nipples. The main thing is that tackle with such a feeder should have a free movement of the hook relative to the sinker.

The simplest montage, outwardly similar to carp montage, is inline on leadcore. Leadcore makes the fall of the feeder more horizontal, as it has some weight, and it does not stick into the bottom edge. At the same time, the hook can be stuck into the feeder or left freely, as in conventional feeder fishing. A free hook additionally allows you to diversify fishing using a long leash. At the same time, the nozzle is located in the water column, attracting active fish from long distances. This helps when catching roach, which often seeks food not at the bottom, but in the water column. Usually, only a hook with a boilie is stuck into the feeder; putting a hook with a regular nozzle inside is not so effective.

In the current, the flat feeder is rarely used and only in the weak. Basically, due to the fact that the flat feeder itself holds food very weakly, and it will be washed out of it instantly. This forces the use of more viscous baits, which behave differently than usual in the water column. Due to the peculiarity of the feeder, the feeding spot will be strongly elongated along the current, since already during the fall, the feed will begin to be washed out, and it will be carried down. The author does not practice this method of fishing in the current, but those who use it prefer the paternoster for the current with a flat feeder. Apparently, this is how it should be caught.

Lure

Flat feeder feeders allow you to use two types of bait – regular and viscous. Regular groundbaits are stuffed into the feeder after each cast. In this case, you can use both a mold and clog food with just your hand. If the baited hook is placed in the feeder, then it is installed before hammering into the expanded groove between the ribs. Then the bait is taken by hand or with a mold and clamped on the feeder. After that, a throw is made.

Flat method

Viscous groundbait allows you to make more than one cast with the feeder without stuffing. This consistency allows you to save a lot on bait and is suitable for thrifty anglers. True, in order to attract fish, it will be necessary to make a plentiful starting feed with a slingshot or by hand, so that a large feeding spot will attract fish from a great distance. Viscous baits are more convenient to use with banjo feeders, as they hold viscous food especially securely and allow you to make more casts.

Flat method

Bait is used both ordinary and special for flat-feeder fishing. For normal fishing, it is closed by adding a small amount of water. To prepare a viscous bait, more water is added, and a thickener, such as molasses or potato starch, is additionally added to it. It is quite possible to prepare bait yourself on the basis of porridge, breadcrumbs, pea flour, semolina and other components. Since the main object of flat fishing is carp and crucian carp, its preferences for different water bodies are different, you need to try and experiment, these fish are quite picky and fastidious in taste.

Use of pellets

The use of pellets in bait allows you to achieve good results. They are especially good with viscous bait. The pellets are released from the feeder as the feed gets wet and falls out. The very process of falling out is accompanied by the release of a cloud of turbidity in the water, bubbles, this additionally tempts the fish. During this process, a portion of the smell of bait is released into the water column. Pellets can also be hooked as a bait, and also as a component for a two-component bait.

Catching

The main feature of flat feeder fishing is an active search for fish. At the beginning of fishing, several promising fishing areas are found at once. Since fishing takes place on a silty bottom, often covered with algae, it can be difficult to explore it with a marker weight. Therefore, it is best to use an echo sounder, a boat, or just swim in a pond in the summer heat, looking at where there are gaps between vegetation and holes that are convenient for fishing. Then determine a few points for fishing. It is advisable to select a place for fishing so that you can catch these points without crossing the coast, from one place, changing the vector and casting distance. The points themselves can be conveniently applied to a sheet of paper, noting the distance to them and the landmark.

After that, make a starting feed. When fishing on a flat, it is more convenient to do it from a slingshot, since the method feeder itself does not imply the possibility of changing it to a bait. At the same time, however, you can put a marker float so that the feeding is carried out most accurately. A large amount of soil is added to the starting feed – up to seventy percent. Here it is important not to feed the fish, but to create a smell and a spot visible from a distance on the bottom. They feed all promising points at once and start fishing.

The leash is usually placed already at the place of fishing. Put on a boilie or a regular nozzle in the standard way. They cast, the feeder after it lay on the bottom, a little support on itself. This is necessary both to start washing out the feed, and so that the feeder, if it is stuck into the ground with an edge, takes a horizontal position. If this does not happen, the hook with the boilie, fixed inside the feeder, may get stuck and not float up.

Hooking and playing fish

In case of a bite, hooking and hauling of prey is performed. If this is a trophy fish that rarely goes in flocks and which is easy to frighten away, it is better to immediately transfer fishing to another fed point, and additionally feed the one where the bite was from a slingshot. Later, the fish will stand on it, and it will be possible to continue fishing there. If the fish is small, which is abundant throughout the reservoir, then fishing can be continued from the same place.

In the absence of a bite, they first try to correct the nozzle. This often works when catching crucian carp – it changes its preferences from hour to hour, especially in the heat of summer. If the nozzle does not work, try to change the fishing point. If this does not help, you should try to change the composition of the bait, which is stuffed into the feeder. To do this, you need to have in your arsenal at least three bait mixtures for stuffing into the feeder, especially on an unfamiliar reservoir. In composition, they may differ from the mixture for starter feed. It is better to cook them in small quantities.

Catching the banjo

It can also be attributed to fishing on a feeder with a flat feeder. If the “method” feeder is an open structure with a flat closed bottom, then the “banjo” is a feeder that is open on one side only. It is more effective if used in overgrown ponds, where the bottom is covered with a thick layer of elodea and hornwort. In the case of using such a feeder, the feed is not sprayed deep into the algae, where it is poorly visible to the fish. However, the feeding spot in this case is almost completely absent. However, this method is more effective than fishing without a feeder at all, and allows you to save the hook from a hook by sticking it inside the feeder.

The banjo should be stuffed with a viscous mixture with the addition of pellets. The main requirement for bait is a strong enough smell, since it will not work to attract fish with a large feeding spot when fishing with a banjo, and the food is usually inside the feeder. As a nozzle, you can use boilies, micro boilies, boilies with replanting a worm or maggot on a hook, and even put foam balls with the addition of an attractant. Such experiments allow you to achieve bites of the most cautious and well-fed fish. On an overgrown or heavily silted bottom, a pop-up bait will have an advantage, as it is best seen by fish and does not get tangled in algae. When fishing on a heavily silted bottom, it will also have more advantages.
