Who else, who less, has ever suffered constipation. And I say “suffer” because it is not a pleasant sensation for anyone since this symptom appears by the poor frequency of defecation and difficulty passing stool. And sedentary lifestyle does not make it easy … The recommendation of the fitness experts and gurus is to be in constant motion. The fact that we have reduced our social relationships because of the pandemic does not have to be synonymous with lying around doing nothing.

The current society (or no longer so current) has imposed on us a rhythm of life that makes us not pay attention to the needs of our body, so it is important to take care of the biological rhythm of the stools and go to the bathroom when you feel the need, not when we see fit. «There is a myth that says that someone who does not go to the bathroom daily is a constipated person and it is not like that. It really is physiological normality to go from two to three times a day to once every two and three days. If you tell a person in this last group that they are not constipated, it significantly reduces their stress and favors intestinal motivity “, clarifies the physiotherapist Irene Lobón.

Say goodbye to constipation with exercise

You may have heard that constipation is fought by eating high fiber and drinking plenty of water. All of that is true, as is being in constant motion. “The mere fact of being seated for a long time is detrimental to the area of the entire abdomen because it takes a lot of tension, especially in a closed position and leaning forward on the elbows, as many times we are at the desk”, explains the expert . “Is a posture we recommend breaking every hour or hour and a half getting up and taking a simple walk. The ideal is to combine some exercises that allow you to mobilize some deep muscles. Squats come in handy, or lying on your back doing the bike in the air ».

But that’s not all. Apparently, dynamic movement is not the only exercise that favors the non-appearance of constipation. As Irene Lobón explains, there is a visceral movement through massage in the abdomen area (circular massage in a clockwise direction) that would favor the intestine. «It is necessary to favor the intestinal movement, working from left to right, as in the video ”, says María Rossich, personal trainer and graduate in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences.
