Trout are caught in a variety of ways, including float fishing. The advantage of such fishing is that the tackle is very simple, does not require additional costs and special skills. In addition, fishing with a float is much easier than, for example, fly fishing, when fishing cannot take place at all without certain skills. On an ordinary fishing rod, you can catch any kind of trout: both river and lake. At the same time, there are some differences in fishing due to the presence of a current, which requires the use of individual elements of tackle that differ from each other, although not significantly. It remains only to find out where the trout is found, when it is caught and on what gear.
Bait for trout fishing
When using a float rod, different types of nozzles are used, depending on the nature of the reservoir.
When fishing on a river, the best bait is crustaceans that live in the same reservoir. As a rule, they are found under stones in the area of rifts. They resemble marine shrimp, but are much smaller. However, they can have different shades. Under the stones you can find such bugs of a light or dark shade. When fishing, especially on the first trip, it is better to use crustaceans of different colors, as this affects the number of bites. Having decided on the shade of the nozzle, in the future you can collect only such crustaceans.
Scientifically, these crustaceans are called amphipod beetles, and it is preferable to use them, since they are included in the daily diet of trout. It is very important to know what trout eats in this reservoir. This factor can be decisive in terms of the effectiveness of fishing.
If the fishing conditions are characterized by the lack of current, then shrimp meat can be a good bait. To do this, just buy a pack of frozen shrimp. Arriving at the place of fishing, you should open a pack of shrimp and peel them so that clean meat remains. As practice shows, the bite is very active, and fishing is quite effective.
Sometimes trout is caught on live bait, but this is not typical for every reservoir. If the reservoir is not familiar, then it makes sense to try to fish with live bait. In some cases, this approach works. In addition to the above baits, trout is also caught on the following baits:
- dung worm;
- maidservant;
- trout paste;
- corn;
- bloodworms, etc.
If you just sit and wait for a trout to bite, then it is unlikely that you will be able to catch it. The fact is that she is attracted to the bait, which is in motion. An immobilized bait will never interest this fish. Therefore, the bait should be animated by slight twitching of the rod so that the trout will notice it.
Promising places for trout fishing
The search for brook trout comes down to identifying places where trout constantly feed and feel safe. Such places include:
- steep banks where there is suitable depth;
- places where there is a fast current, which means that the water is saturated with oxygen;
- areas where there are depth differences;
- places of blockages of trees and coastal vegetation;
- in areas of various obstacles, behind which the current accelerates.
Trout prefer areas where the water does not have time to warm up as actively as in areas where direct sunlight falls. On hot days, trout is in the shade of trees hanging over the water or at a depth. The fact is that trout prefer areas with cool water. When moving along the river bank in search of trout, you should choose the direction against the current so as not to alert the fish. She always stands with her head against the current, so she is unlikely to be able to notice the angler behind the fish.
If the water is cold, then trout may be in areas where the current is not as fast, despite the fact that trout prefer crystal clear and cool water.
Lake trout are mostly found in private ponds and you will have to pay a lot of money for fishing. In paid ponds, not only trout is found, but also other fish, including predatory ones. As a rule, there are quite a lot of fish in such reservoirs, but this does not mean that it is easy to catch it without the use of bait. The task of bait is to collect a certain amount of fish in one place, as it is scattered throughout the reservoir. If this is not done, then bites will be rare and not always effective.
For trout fishing, any bait is suitable, including purchased, for catching all types of carp fish. To make it more attractive to trout, shrimp juice is added to it, which can be found in the package after defrosting previously purchased shrimp.
Depending on weather conditions, trout can be found in the water column at any level, and this factor must be taken into account. Sometimes it actively behaves closer to the surface of the water, and sometimes it sinks to a depth. Very often it keeps in the middle layers. As a rule, the position of the fish is established experimentally. If possible, it is better to use an echo sounder. As for paid reservoirs, everything is much more complicated here, but no conditions stop experienced anglers.
If an ordinary float rod is used, then the location of the fish is easy to determine if you constantly change the depth of fishing. Although such an approach can take a lot of precious time.
As for tackle, it must be borne in mind that trout is a fairly strong and lively fish. Even not large specimens show serious resistance when playing. Therefore, the choice of elements of gear should be approached with all seriousness. This applies to the choice of rod, line, hook, float and reel. If fishing is carried out on the current, then it is very important to select the elements of tackle in such a way that they provide minimal resistance to the current. As a rule, flat floats are used in such conditions.
