Is there fishing in Mongolia – this is the reasoning of an inexperienced fisherman. Mongolia is a real fishing paradise for professionals. But one must imagine a place with fish, where people do not fish and do not even know the taste of fish caught in their homeland. According to the stories, we imagine Mongolia as an endless steppe, with herds of horses and shepherds. Then the steppe smoothly turns into the endless Gobi desert with sands – what kind of fishing can be here. But you can imagine a different picture: a sonorous river flows, not a soul around, the water in the river stirs from a lot of fish. The fish does not swim to the depth, noticing the movement on the surface of the water, but looks at you with interest. There are such places in Mongolia. Fishing for taimen is one of the top priorities in these colorful places.
The country is 4 times larger in area than Ukraine, and the number of people living there does not exceed three million. Settlements are far apart, houses and yurts can stand side by side. In the cities, as it should be, high-rise buildings, and outside the city, in the steppe, insulated houses were built. We represent a steppe country, but here there are highlands, forests and rivers full of fearless fish.
The people of Mongolia began to catch and eat fish only recently, and earlier religion did not allow. And until now, few people have real tackle, they catch fish on a fishing line and a hook right with their hands. You can see instead of a fishing rod a simple stick, to which a fishing line of incomprehensible quality is tied and instead of a weight, a nut or bolt. A grasshopper is put on the hook and the “fishing rod” is thrown in the way that the Mongols throw a rope on horses. But even with such a primitive method, the catch is guaranteed. Who are the poachers, they do not know and do not understand the meaning of this word.
There are many nature reserves in Mongolia where there is paid fishing for taimen. Since this fish is considered a landmark of the country, it is listed in the Red Book and has a restriction in catching. The rivers are full of fish and catching them is a pleasure. There are few species like ours, but cupids, carps and silver carps grow to enormous sizes. Fishing in Yakutia for taimen
Taimen is the largest fish that is found in freshwater reservoirs and grows up to two meters in length and weighs up to 80 kg. Taimen lives in the northern rivers of Yakutia. Fishermen know about such a handsome man and dream of going fishing in Yakutia. It is best to catch it from a boat, rafting down the river. Near the banks in the stones, the school of taimen keeps to itself and does not tolerate neighbors of other species. The most stocked river is the Lena River and the rivers that flow into it.

Taimen loves cool water and lives most of all in northern rivers, on rifts. Fishing starts in August after spawning. Large baits are used, spinners that have a fluctuating rhythm. The “mouse” lure (it’s a styrofoam lined with dark fur) is very effective at night. Fish bite on this bait because real mice often swim across the river at night and become prey to fish. The bait does not need to be immersed in depth, it needs to float on the surface of the water.
For fishing from the shore on a fisherman, clothing should not stand out against the background of vegetation, the taimen is very careful and leaves at the slightest movement of shadows on the water. If one individual is caught, do not rush to change the place, there are several more of the same weight and height. Do not collect a lot of fish for the future, tomorrow there will be the same fishing.
Fishing on the Yenisei
The Yenisei River itself is considered the most beautiful and most filled with water and fish. Fishing on the Yenisei is available all year round. The river does not freeze even in winter due to the influence of the hydroelectric station, which stands in the upper reaches of the river, so the water temperature in frosts is always above zero. Fishing is best in reservoirs or near villages located on the coast. The bait for the fish is the mormyshka.
In the summer you can catch large pikes, they live here in satiety because in the coastal overgrown shores there are many small fish that make up their diet. Fishing can be done both from the shore and from a boat near the shore. The catch will be excellent anywhere, the fish does not go far from feeding places. In the morning, the fish is caught by spinning on live food (worm, maggot), and in the evening or at night on the feeder.
In autumn, when the waters of the rivers are replenished due to frequent rains, you can fish at any time of the day and with different baits. Before winter, she gains weight and grabs everything. The most beautiful places on the middle section of the river. But you can only catch the fish that is allowed. Taimen is listed in the Red Book, and if he accidentally fell for the bait, you need to let him go. And such fish as pike, perch and other types of white fish are allowed to be caught. At the source of the river, where there is wildlife, fishing is excellent, but you can only get to the place by all-terrain vehicle or helicopter.

Fishing in the Krasnoyarsk Territory

At night, you can catch very large taimen, the only pity is that you need to release this fish back into the river.
Difficulties of fishing in Mongolia
When traveling to Mongolia for fishing, there are no particular difficulties. You just need to plan everything in advance:
- when you can catch large fish – taimen, and whether you agree to other types of fish;
- when it rains and impassable roads (must be agreed with the organization of the flight);
- come to terms with the fact that you will be alone for hundreds of kilometers (there are places where a human foot has not set foot);
- stock up on tackle and bait, suitable clothing, sleeping bag, mosquito repellent.
Even with such inconveniences as a helicopter flight, UAZ and all-terrain vehicles, mosquito attacks and the fear of loneliness, fishermen tend to go fishing in Mongolia.
