The first time is a breakthrough moment that proves the beginning of sexual life. You can get pregnant from the very first intercourse. It is worth remembering about it in order to effectively protect ourselves and focus on things other than thinking about the child at this moment, which at the moment would significantly thwart our life plans.

The first time was 19 years old

Polish women start their sex life around the age of 19. At least this is what the polls and other research conducted by sociologists show.

– This statistical age, which has hardly changed for years, may be overstated, says psychologist and psychosexologist Bianca Beata Kotoro. – Young girls hide the fact that they are already having sex from their parents and teachers. Often, even their friends do not tell the truth for fear that the news will spread. So, in habitual surveys, they say they don’t have sex, or they give the ‘official’ date of the first time instead of the real one.

Kotoro’s theory can be confirmed by a very large number of pregnancies among women under 19 years of age.

– In 2008, over 21 thousand women gave birth to a child before their 19th birthday – says Dr. Małgorzata Bińkowska, gynecologist and endocrinologist. – So every 20th Polish child had a teenage mother.

A condom for the first time

This may be due to the fact that Polish women start using contraception on average 9-10 months after the first time. So, for almost a year, they do not protect themselves against pregnancy! The method most often chosen for the first time in Poland, as in almost all Europe, is the condom.

– This is a good and effective method, but requires both partners some experience in using it – says Bińkowska. – The stress is usually very strong the first time you have sex, and you may not be able to put it on correctly.

The risk is greatest when this is also the first intercourse for a boyfriend. Doctors and sexologists therefore advise you to practice dry putting on a condom and be sure to buy a few in case one, for example, tears during application.

Vaginal globules and creams

Vaginal globules and creams are becoming less and less popular among Polish women. However, it is worth stocking up on such a preparation if the contraceptive is to be a condom for the first time. The globule plus condom set is an almost perfect safety feature: even if the condom is installed incorrectly, bursts, slips off, etc., the spermicide will create a tight barrier. You can also just have the globule on hand in case it turns out that the nerves have failed and putting a condom on that day is beyond the possibilities of partners and other protection is needed quickly.

Birth control pills

In many countries, young women start having sex with the contraceptive pill. Most often it is done by Dutch (55%) and German (49%) women. In Poland, only 15-20% of girls choose the pill as a contraceptive for the first time.

– Many teenagers have no idea that they can go to the gynecologist without their mother – says Anna Konopka from the Ponton sex educators group. – Meanwhile, if they are over 16, they can not only go alone, but also ask for a prescription for the pills. And the doctor has no right to tell such a patient ‘Come back with the parents and we’ll talk’, nor to call the parents and inform them about it.

The pill can be saved no earlier than 2-3 years after the first menstruation. Modern pills are completely safe, many of them are tailored to the needs of a young organism. There is only one condition: the doctor must examine the patient, talk to her about family diseases, etc., and then select the appropriate preparation. Buying pills online or borrowing from a friend can be very dangerous!

Your doctor may also prescribe birth control patches. They work like tablets and are perfect for the forgetful because you only need to stick them on once a week, instead of taking a pill every day at the same time. However, a barrier for young girls is the price (PLN 50-60, while the cheapest pills cost PLN 10), as well as the fact that the patch can be seen by mothers, PE teachers, internists who go to due to flu, etc.

Intermittent intercourse ineffective

Across Europe, 12% of women use this method during their first intercourse. The belief that if the vagina does not ejaculate, it is impossible to get pregnant is very popular also among young Polish women. For an upset young boy, the need to control his orgasm is often an overwhelming task. In fact, intermittent intercourse is a bad idea, no matter what your age or experience. Simply because before the penis ejaculation, there is a discharge with sperm in it.
