Extrovert is a word derived from Latin. In this extinct language, “extra” means “outward” and “vertere” means “to turn”. The term for this type of personality was introduced into psychology by Carl Gustav Jung in his work entitled “Psychological types” (1921). In addition to an extrovert, psychology also distinguishes an introvert. These are basic personality types that are opposed to each other. It is worth noting that we very rarely deal with the so-called pure extrovert. However, we are able to determine the propensity to be one. This is possible thanks to the observation and analysis of a person’s character and behavior.
An extrovert is action-oriented. He feels much better around other people and finds it difficult to function when he is lonely. Characteristic features of extroverts are, for example, fast and loud speech, as well as maintaining eye contact during the conversation. Extroverts often lose the main thread of their speech. People about it type personality are able to focus attention on the task at hand. Extraverts often achieve better learning outcomes, especially at school. They also have more interests. Their lively disposition leads to increased physical activity.
Extroverts engage in sports because they like to be constantly on the move and have a lot of energy. Interestingly, experts have observed that people about it typy personalities are able to stay away from hunger for long periods of time. During too long a rest, they become nervous, which makes them unable to function properly. Extroverts’ inaction leads to a more rapid midlife crisis. Such people have no problems finding themselves in a new situation, and making new friends is easy for them. In the group, they often act as leaders. They draw their energy, among other things, from the possibility of working with others.
Extroverts are confident and determined. However, they also face some problems. People with this personality type are characterized by short memories. Often their actions are impulsive, that is, they first do and then think. They are also not always able to control their behavior and may become hysterical in stressful situations. Their intense lifestyle and the multitude of various matters lead to fatigue. According to research, extroverts constitute approximately 30–50% of the population.
It is worth considering what dominant personality type we have. Are we closer to an extrovert or an introvert? This can be checked easily and quickly. All you need to do is honestly answer a few questions, for example:
- Are you stressed by public speaking?
- After a hard day at work, are you able to meet your friends?
- When are you leaving a social gathering?
- Do you like being the center of attention?
- Do you analyze your answer when talking to someone?
- How do you react to monotonous activities?
- Are you a good listener?
There are many other questions that you can use to test your dominant personality. However, after answering the above-mentioned, you can determine if you are an extrovert. If you like public appearances, you are able to meet your friends even after a stressful day, and you are one of the last to leave the party, you can expect the extrovert to be you. Being the center of attention is also not a problem for you. During the conversation you speak without analyzing the words that “fly out” from your mouth. Monotony puts you in a state of irritation and nervousness. And you are a poor listener, preferring when they listen to you – you can be sure that your dominant personality type is an extrovert.
When starting the work phase of our lives, we should pay attention to what we feel good about. The satisfaction and willingness to do our work is also related to our personality. Extroverts can find themselves in positions such as a journalist, press spokesman, client or financial advisor, tour guide, HR employee, team manager or coach.
Extroverts do well in leadership positions because their personality type makes them perceived by others. They can also win over people, and the trainings they conduct are very interesting.
