Figs cannot be called a regular at our tables. This fruit belongs to the exotic, grows mainly in Turkey and Asian countries. Our housewives can prepare unusual fig jam only during the period of active ripening of the fruit – in summer and early autumn, when it enters the domestic market.
Preparatory stage
Making fig jam requires some preparation. First of all, the fruits must be carefully sorted out. Fermented figs are unsuitable for cooking delicacies. Moreover, such a dessert can harm the body. If everything is done correctly, then the benefits of fig jam are obvious: it helps to fight bronchitis and sore throat.

Before you cook delicious and healthy fig jam, it will be useful to familiarize yourself with the most popular cooking recipes. We will give the most successful options, thanks to which you can easily cook an exotic fig delicacy.
Armenian
A classic recipe that has long been actively used by housewives in Armenia. For him, small fruits will be ideal.
Each fig is cleaned of the tail and the skin is carefully pierced in several places with a toothpick. Dilute 2 g of alum in 15 liters of water and bring to a boil. After the water boils and the alum dissolves, you can place the figs in the pan. Again we wait for the boil, reduce the heat and leave the berries to cook for 5 minutes.
Now the water can be drained, and the figs thoroughly rinsed under running water. Again we collect water in the pan – you will need 1,8 liters, and bring to a boil. We fall asleep 150 g of sugar, stir until completely dissolved and lay the figs again. After the berries boil, cook them for another 5 minutes, then drain the water, and wash the figs again.
We turn to the preparation of syrup, which will require 800 g of granulated sugar and 1,6 liters of water. The boiled syrup is left on low heat, chopped half a lemon is placed in it. We cook 5 minutes. Now you can add fire and lay out the figs.
Again we wait until the mixture boils, reduce the heat and cook until the jam is ready. As a rule, 2 hours of cooking is enough for the indicated amount of food.
Pour the cooked jam into sterilized jars and store.
With nuts
This dessert is very similar to marmalade loved by many. For him you will need:
- 5 kg of figs;
- 5 kg of sugar;
- 1 lemon;
- 700 g hazelnuts or hazelnuts;
- 1 L of water.
We cover the fruits with sugar and leave for the night or for 8 hours. After that, add water and send to the fire until the sugar is completely dissolved. After the jam boils, it is boiled for about 15 minutes and cooled to room temperature. Now we fall asleep nuts, and repeat the procedure of cooking and cooling.
The next step is to add the sliced lemon, peeled and pitted. Cook the jam for another 15 minutes and pour into jars. You need to store such a delicacy in the refrigerator, closing it with ordinary plastic lids.
With plums
Here spices set the tone – the recipe includes cloves and cinnamon:
- figs, sugar and plums – 500 g each;
- 1 tsp ground cloves;
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon;
- 1 st. l. gelfix with pectin;
- 1 lime (can be replaced with lemon or orange).
We cut the plums in half, removing the seeds, cut the figs into 4 parts, removing the tails from it. Remove the zest from the citrus and squeeze out the juice. Pour 50 ml of water into the pan, put the prepared fruits and add the zest.
Cook the mixture over low heat until partially reduced. When the consistency of the future jam has changed, you can add citrus juice and a gelling mixture.
Bring to a boil, add sugar, and cook for another 40 minutes. Put the finished dessert in jars and cork. It should be stored in a cold place.
with lemons
For this recipe you will need:
- 1 kg of fig berries;
- 2 lemon;
- 0,6 kg of granulated sugar;
- 4 carnation umbrellas;
- 2 tsp balsamic vinegar;
- 100 ml water.
Each berry is cleaned of tails and cut crosswise at the base. In any 4 figs we lay carnation umbrellas. Thoroughly wash the lemons, cut into translucent thin slices. Pour water, lemon juice and vinegar into a saucepan. We fall asleep sugar, spread the sliced lemon. Boil the syrup for about 10 minutes, periodically removing the foam.
Put the figs into the boiling syrup and cook for 3 minutes. Now the jam can be removed from the heat, leave for 3 hours to brew. This procedure should be repeated twice, after which the delicacy can be poured into jars.
With oranges
We wash 1 kg of figs, dry them and cut the berries into quarters. We shift the fruit into a saucepan, add 650 g of granulated sugar, 1 pinch of cinnamon, juice and zest of 1 orange there. Mix everything, cover with a clean towel and leave for several hours.
Now put the mixture on the fire, bring to a boil and cook for about half an hour. That’s it, orange and fig jam is ready! Pour into jars and seal.
