What is a plant like field bindweed?

field bindweed

field bindweed – a plant belonging to the bindweed family. This species has a long taproot that penetrates up to three meters deep into the soil. Bare and creeping stems are up to 120 cm long. The stems all move away from the root neck, forming dense rosettes. Bindweed leaves are located on cuttings of great length. Beautiful, large, pink or white flowers of the plant are already visible from afar. On each peduncle there are from one to three of these beautiful flowers.

The fruit of the plant is a box that looks like an egg. It contains seeds with an uneven surface, brown or dark gray.

From the beginning of summer to the first days of autumn, bindweed blooms, the ripening of fruits lasts only a month, namely from August to September.

Field bindweed reproduces in only two ways: by seeds and root offspring. You can see this plant in the CIS countries. Bindweed prefers fresh loamy soil. In a forest clearing, near roads, in garbage collection areas and in vegetable gardens, you can also find bindweed.

In fact, field bindweed is a poisonous plant, but it is used without fear in the preparation of preparations for the treatment of diseases in folk medicine, as well as as feed for pigs.

Growing field bindweed

As soon as the bindweed pods turn light brown, they must be collected. Next, you need to sow the seeds of bindweed in open ground. May is the best month for sowing plant seeds. Bindweed sprouts will appear 7 days after sowing the seeds. Immediately it is necessary to thin them out so that there is a distance of 15–20 cm between shoots.

On the 70-80th day, the flowering of the plant will begin (June), which continues until the beginning of autumn. If the plant receives a lot of nitrogen fertilizers and is watered a lot, then it grows very quickly, but flowering is weak. During the period of initial budding, mineral complete fertilizer is applied. Water the plant only if there is a strong drying of the soil.

Useful properties of field bindweed

For medicinal purposes, grass and plant roots are used, seeds and flowers are used less frequently. Bindweed has a laxative and hypotensive effect. Bindweed preparations are used as a choleretic and diuretic. Bindweed seeds improve the secretory function of the large intestine, increasing its peristalsis.
