What’s going on in the bedroom? Not only a dream. There we still talk, make love, read books … we spend a considerable part of our free time. By creating a harmonious environment in this room, we will improve the relationship in a couple and the well-being of everyone.
Ideally, the bedroom is located in the back of the apartment. The Chinese believe that it should be more than a child’s. In this case, the children will have a desire when they grow up to have the same big beautiful room as their parents, recalls feng shui master Helen Weber, master of the Academy of Chinese Metaphysics in Kuala Lumpur. Feng Shui (literally translated as “water and wind”) is an ancient teaching of the symbolic exploration of space.
“It doesn’t matter that it came to us from China,” notes Helen Weber. “The flows of energy obey the same universal laws everywhere. When the qi energy is in harmony, we experience a sense of well-being and emotional balance. The traditional art of Feng Shui allows us to achieve this state effectively and increase our compatibility with housing.” If the qi is balanced in the room where the family lives, then the two get along better, their sex life is active, and their income is higher.
Not everyone has the opportunity (and the need) to strictly observe all the rules of Feng Shui, but everyone can follow the advice offered by experts.
For sound sleep you need volume – a lot of air, little furniture, few things
You and your partner should be attentive to the sensations that arise in the bedroom. Does the setting promote sensuality or satisfy only aesthetic needs? The location of the bed, the presence or absence of mirrors, the choice of colors and materials matter. It is useful to keep the bedroom clean and tidy so that the energy does not stagnate in the room, facing various obstacles. Soft fabrics falling in free folds, sheets and duvet covers made of natural fabrics – all this enhances positive energies and encourages body and soul to relax.
“Until now, neither doctors nor ergonomists have come up with another psycho-technique that is as effective for restoring energy as sleep,” emphasizes a specialist in the field of psychology of the home environment, Doctor of Psychology Sofia Nartova-Bochaver. – The bedroom and the place of sleep in general is a very intimate place for a person, and therefore the owners should feel safe in it. Thus, the main requirements for this room are to be protected, to give the opportunity to sleep and to stimulate the morning energy of a person. For sound sleep, you need volume – a lot of air, little furniture, few things.
Bed
This is the main place in the bedroom. The ideal shape for the bed, as well as for the room itself, is square. It is better to choose wood as a material, it is alive and warm. Iron and hydromassage beds are not recommended for two people. If the bed is pushed against the wall, it gives a feeling of more security. But you should not put it against the wall, which is adjacent to the toilet or bathroom.
A double bed is good for relationships, while even separate mattresses on a large bed symbolize an unstable relationship, which over time can lead to alienation, Helen Weber warns. She also advises avoiding bookcases and shelves behind or above the bed, sharp corners of furniture directed towards the bed. In feng shui, it is not recommended to have open shelves anywhere, as their sharp edges create obstacles for positive energy flows. In extreme cases, you can force them tightly with books of relatively the same size, which reduces the negative effect.
Don’t forget what’s under the bed. “This space is a “health resonator,” emphasizes Feng Shui consultant Natalia Nesterova, “you can’t keep boxes or things there. Commode beds, beds with a lifting mechanism are unfavorable. The ideal bed is on separate legs, under which there is nothing. Wipe the dust there regularly by adding one or two drops of rose oil to the water, which has powerful protective and energizing properties.
Not only the mattress should be solid – also on the matrimonial bed it is necessary to lay a single large sheet, lay a king-size blanket. The Chinese use a long cushion under their heads, on which both spouses sleep. True, such an arrangement of the bed is unusual for us.
Linens
Natural materials are good for health, and those fabrics that both partners like and for each symbolize love and sensuality (silk for some, cotton or linen for others) will also be good in the bedroom. It is recommended to choose muted and light colors. Some feng shui experts consider blue to be the best color for the bedroom: it calms and helps to relax.
Avoid triangular or spiky patterns on fabrics, as they will bring too much active energy into the quiet atmosphere of the room. “The same applies to sleepwear,” says Sofia Nartova-Bochaver. – It should be loose and made of silk, linen or cotton. No need to save on nightgowns and pajamas, it is better to do without them at all than to sleep in synthetics.
Window
“Negative energy is carried by busy highways and intersections, garbage cans, crowded residential areas, factories, the wall of a neighboring apartment building, positive energy comes from cemeteries, schools, kindergartens, parks, quiet courtyards,” says Natalia Nesterova. In any case, at least tulle or organza should hang on the window – you can’t leave the window in the bedroom “naked”. But blinds for the bedroom are not suitable, as they create a “cutting” effect.
“The bed should not be placed under the window – extraneous sounds and images will disturb sleep,” says Sofia Nartova-Bochaver. – The window suggests thoughts about who may be under it or next to it, but this does not reassure. The ideal option is a window on the opposite wall from the bed. Then those lying on the bed will have an overview of the room and a sense of security.
Decoration
Pillows, curtains, carpets, pouffes, comfortable chairs, objects and paintings that evoke sensuality are traditionally welcomed, says Helen Weber. Let the couple choose what best embodies love, pleasure, desire for her. You should not convince your partner of the exceptional correctness of your choice or accept his choice if you do not like him. Look for things that match your tastes.
From furniture it is better to have a bedside table or its likeness and a place for clothes. “You shouldn’t put a mirror in the bedroom,” says Sofia Nartova-Bochaver, “this item arouses people’s curiosity about itself, reflects excessive light in the room, and is generally endowed with mystical properties in legends and myths, so its presence will not lull the inhabitants.” If you can’t do without a mirror, place it so that the sleepers are not reflected in it. For many, the remark of Natalia Nesterova will be unexpected: “Feng Shui masters believe that sex in front of a mirror is a reliable way to kill reciprocity and sensuality.”
Metal objects are also unfavorable, but crystals are welcome. The two main crystal talismans – the lotus and the crystal ball – are aimed at dispelling the negative energy of sha. “The overclocked qi turns into dangerous sha energy – this happens, for example, in a long narrow corridor, near an active highway, and so on,” explains Natalia Nesterova. “Crystal stops and disperses sha, returning it to the originally good state of qi, harmonizes and improves circulation.” There is also a special talisman to enhance mutual love, tenderness and harmony – paired figures of mandarin ducks. Usually they are on the chest of drawers or on the bedside table of the wife. Ducks cannot be separated.
