Femibion Natal 2 – action

Folic acid is a B vitamin – it is essential for the proper functioning and development of the body. Calcium L-methylfolate, or Metafolin, is the active form (metabolite) of folic acid, ready for direct use by the maternal and fetal tissues. Folic acid plays an important role in tissues with numerous cell divisions (hematopoietic system, gastrointestinal epithelium, fetal tissues).

Folic acid is also essential for the myelination of nerve fibers. Taking folic acid at a dose of 0,4 mg a day and higher reduces the risk of congenital defects of the nervous system in the offspring, such as spina bifida and other defects of the central nervous system resulting from disturbances in the neural tube formation process. Disorders of the closure of the so-called neural tube in the fetal period can lead to the so-called anencephaly and spinal hernias.

DHA is one of the polyunsaturated fatty acids that are of particular importance for the proper development of the child’s brain and eyesight. It is found in every cell in our body and is essential for a healthy heart and nervous system, brain and cognitive function, skin, hair and eye health, joint mobility, and a healthy immune system.

For a baby developing in the womb, omega-3 fatty acids such as DHA and EPA are essential for the proper development of the eyes, brain, heart and nervous system, as well as for maintaining a healthy birth weight and longer pregnancy. DHA has also been linked to supporting mood and preventing postpartum depression, as well as increasing focus and attention in children.

During pregnancy or breastfeeding, the baby receives the DHA it needs from the mother’s body. Most people don’t get enough DHA in their normal diet because it comes mostly from oily fish such as salmon, anchovies, and herring. Tuna is also rich in DHA, but pregnant women are usually advised to limit or avoid eating tuna and certain other fish due to their potentially high mercury levels.
