Features of working with gifted children in primary and secondary schools
Gifted children should study in specialized educational institutions, where they can communicate with children of their level of development, under the supervision of trained teachers. But often child prodigies end up in an ordinary educational institution, where their talent should be revealed. The peculiarities of working with gifted children are a part of pedagogical science, which is important for a teacher to know.
Psychology of behavior of a gifted child at school
Creativity manifests itself very early. A gifted child becomes noticeable even in primary school. He requires a special attitude, depending on the personal qualities and attitude of teachers, becomes a favorite of the school or an outcast.
It is important that a gifted child in the classroom is an authority, not a black sheep. So that his achievements become an example for children of average and poor academic performance.
If a gifted child enrolls in a general education school, he needs to provide additional education. It can be given by a teacher who is passionate about the subject, who knows how to find a common language with the child. Such a teacher creates additional motivation, contributes to the formation of talent.
If talent manifested itself in older adolescence, it is undesirable to change the team, transfer the child to a specialized school. The best option would be one-to-one training. In order not to sit with all the children in the classroom, a gifted child is taught at home according to an individual program. And then he passes the tests to the teachers after mastering the given material.
Features of working with gifted children for teachers
An unusual child sometimes becomes an unbearable burden for an elementary school teacher. He is bored in the classroom, he is inattentive, absent-minded. A teacher who understands the peculiarities of child psychology helps the student to realize his abilities.
Only a teacher for whom the task of personal and professional development is relevant can work with gifted children. When he leads each lesson in a new way, pedagogy is not a heavy duty for him, but the meaning of life.
If a teacher or educator of a preschool educational institution has an interest in his development, and he constantly improves himself, then he will be able to teach gifted children.
The teacher should be able to ask the child an unexpected question that requires deliberation, experimentation or analysis of literature. Know how to respond to unexpected questions, essays, creative improvisation of the student. Be able to awaken a keen interest in knowledge.
Unfortunately, educational institutions teach memorization and reproduction of material without the need to understand it. For teaching gifted children, we will apply a special pedagogical approach that will help the development of innate abilities.
