FDA suspends registration of a nut producer

The American Food and Drug Administration has suspended the registration of a New Mexico company, Sunland Inc. of Portales, which produces nut products such as peanut butter or just nuts. The reasons for this decision are more than 40 cases of the disease and the fact that a wide variety of nuts and peanut butter have been recalled from store shelves due to salmonella contamination.

Food and Drug Administration’s justification in the announcement: the fact that the company’s peanut butter was linked to the Salmonella Bredeney outbreak, affecting 41 people in 20 states, coupled with a long history of violations of the law by Sunland Inc. of Portales causes the FDA to decide to suspend the company’s registration.

Additionally, FDA officials found salmonella bacteria in 28 samples collected from various types of surfaces in the company’s production plants, during the last inspection. Bacteria were also found in 13 peanut butter samples and in the raw nuts themselves. The American agency adds that the company is trying sell contaminated productseven if its internal inspection controls alert you to the presence of bacteria in nuts and peanut butter. Sunland Inc. of Portales denies these accusations. Sunland Inc. products of Portales will only return to the market once the FDA is satisfied that the company meets all the required standards.
