At a scientific session of the US Association of Cardiologists, scientists from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, who three years earlier revealed the positive effect of laughter on the heart, presented the equally stunning results of a new study – the emotions that a person experiences when listening to their favorite tunes. have a positive effect on the work of blood vessels.
Professor Michael Miller, who heads the Heart Disease Prevention Research Unit at Maryland School of Medicine, says he is shocked by the significant differences in heart function before and after listening to music, as well as how the heart responds to different melodies – sad, funny, fast and others others.
In a study, a group of 10 healthy, nonsmoking volunteers were asked to listen to music that triggers positive emotions in them for several weeks. Comparing the results, doctors found that after listening to favorite melodies, the blood vessels of a person expand by an average of almost 26%, while disturbing music made the blood vessels narrow by 6%.
According to Miller, this could be a preventive strategy for preventing heart disease in everyday life.
