A father’s testosterone level depends on where he sleeps and is linked to his involvement in caring for the baby, US scientists report in the journal PLoS ONE.
Researchers from the University of Notre Dame (USA) decided to check whether the distribution of the sleeping father and child could affect a man’s testosterone levels. It turned out that the distance at which dad sleeps from his child actually influences the hormone content in his body.
The study was conducted on Filipinos.
It turned out that men who slept with their children on one bed had the lowest testosterone levels. Fathers sleeping in the same room as their children had average testosterone levels, and men who spent the night in another room had the most hormone.
However, researchers also found that low testosterone levels in men affect their parental behavior and translate into greater involvement in childcare. (PAP)
