The owner of the trademark “Father’s Old Barrel” (“Father’s Old Barrel”) is LLC “Real Alcohol Company” (NAC), which is part of the “Spirtnoy” Group of Companies. Cognac Father’s Old Barrel (Old Barrel) is bottled at the Dmitrovsky Distillery, which has a production capacity of up to 1.5 million decalitres of cognacs and brandy per year. The portfolio of key brands of the group of companies “Spirtnoy” also includes cognacs Monte Choco, “Shturman”, vodka, whiskey, sparkling wine.
Historical reference. The Father’s Old Barrel trademark (often abbreviated as Old Barrel) has been on the market for about 10 years and during this time has changed several owners. Among them are the First Vodka Company, which is part of the VILASH Group of Companies, the OST-ALKO company. Commercial bottling of cognac was carried out at the Champagne Wine Plant in the Leningrad Region, at the sites of the Usovsky Wine and Cognac Cellars and the Zhemchuzhina Stavropol Agricultural Company.
The brand is owned by the Real Alcohol Company (GK Spirit). The NAC plant is located in Dmitrov near Moscow, one of the most environmentally friendly areas. The company has its own artesian wells at a depth of 180 meters, which provide production with uniquely clean and soft water. Cognac spirits are supplied from Armenia, Spain and France. The plant uses the “still blend” technology, which regulates the process of mixing high-grade distillates with water and bringing the final product to the required 40%. Barrels for post-blend aging are made from Limousin and Caucasian hardwood oak.
In 2016, the company invited specialists from the British agency Claessens Internftional, which developed the packaging design for Hennessy and Martell cognac houses, to carry out restyling. The main changes affected the design of the label: elements of gold stamping and stamping were added. Such an important branding element as the logo in the form of lions guarding the oak barrel was transferred to the back wall of the bottle and made embossed. The shape of the bottle, which imitates an oak barrel for aging spirits and is logically connected with the brand name, has remained the same, but due to the thickened bottom, the capacity has become higher.
To date, the Old Barrel line is represented by two positions: VS (3 years) and VSOP (5 years), produced in containers from 0,1 to 1 liter. In 2017, it is planned to expand the collection through the release of premium cognac Father’s Old Barrel XO (10 years). In addition to promoting its own products, NAK is engaged in guest bottling for private labels, providing partners with a range of imported spirits for the production of premium cognacs and inexpensive drinks in the mass segment.

In 2014, Father’s Old Barrel cognac was nominated for participation in the annual National Product of the Year award and received an award for “High quality and dynamically developing brand”.

Interesting Facts
The Old Barrel brand is no stranger to product placement. The company’s products are increasingly appearing in Russian TV series and this is presented quite competently and unobtrusively. So, the “Old Barrel” is paid tribute to by doctors from the “Pregnancy Test” movie saga, shown on Channel One. Law enforcement officers from the series “The Investigator” preferred a different brand of the manufacturer – Monte Choco.
GC “Spirtnoy” often acts as an alcoholic partner of the most striking events in the field of art and sports. Among the events where the Old Barrel and Monte Choco brands “lit up” are the largest corporate golf tournaments, an exhibition of sports boats and yachts, a tournament for the Equestrian Polo Federation Cup, and an international beauty contest.

Father’s Old Barrel Old Barrel V.S (3 года), 40%
Ordinary cognac, blended from three-year-old distillates. Despite its youth, it has a powerful bouquet, in which aromas of violets, flowering vines, prunes, and light oak tones stand out. The taste is lively, alcoholic-pepper in the first sip, then softer and rounder, rich in woody-nutty and vanilla notes. Can be a good base for a Green Dragon or Stinger cocktail.
Father’s Old Barrel V.S.O.P (5 лет), 40%
The company’s flagship product. The blend used alcohols not younger than 5 years of age. The role of the first violin in the aromatic scale belongs to fruity and woody tones: ripe peach, sandalwood, cypress. The drink standing in the snifter reveals new spicy notes – dried peach, nutmeg, cardamom. The taste is full-bodied and silky, the drink “plays” with grape and chocolate shades, enhanced by nuances of cinnamon and white pepper. Sweet desserts can make a gastronomic pair of cognac.
Mount Choco XO (6 лет), 40%
Vintage cognac is assembled from distillates at least 6 years old. French and Russian masters of blending took part in the development of the recipe. Produced using cold filtration technology. The name, which translates as “Chocolate Mountain”, reflects the characteristic features of the drink: a rich aromatic palette and a velvety taste with various shades of chocolate. The design of the bottle also supports the “chocolate” theme – it is made of frosted dark glass and has a recognizable square shape.
“Shturman” 5 years, 40%
Cognac, blended from five-year-old spirits, replenished the collection in 2013. By production the modern technology of a filtration “ice shok” is used. The product is positioned as a drink with a strong character, intended for representatives of real male professions: pilots, sailors, divers, oilmen. The bouquet contains a touch of the sea breeze, a bright floral palette and a pronounced note of oak bark. Dried raisins, nuts, dark chocolate, cigar humidor are distinguishable on the palate.
