Most often, when the air temperature drops below 5°C, we begin to lament the onset of cold weather and that it becomes less comfortable outside. But few people really think about the fact that low temperatures are beneficial for the human body.
Of course, if we remember our childhood, this will not be something surprising. From a very young age, we are taught to have a negative attitude towards low temperatures, and only snow, which is most often a companion of a decrease in temperature, sometimes brings us positive emotions from a cold snap. During cold weather, we were always so burdened with a load of warm clothes that there was almost no chance of a slight feeling of freezing. However, studies are now confirming the conclusions that staying at a moderately low temperature is not only beneficial for the human immune system, which improves health, but also has a positive effect on the skin and metabolism.
Hardening of the body
A person who regularly takes walks in the frosty season will be an order of magnitude healthier than a homebody. It is these walks in the cold that help strengthen our immunity and stimulate it for self-improvement. Probably, our ancestors also well understood these natural mechanisms of self-defense of the body, therefore, until recently, actions were popular, many of which now only frighten young parents. Children who were not even a year old were doused with cold water to protect them from serious illnesses. This method, if gradually adapted to the child, stimulates the production of immunity.
Frost and our figure
In the cold season, energy consumption increases, a person loses weight more intensively. Explanations for this phenomenon are quite simple but can be scientifically substantiated.
In the cold season, most often in winter, the physical load on the limbs and spine increases when we are forced to spend a lot of time outdoors. As a result, to overcome the atmospheric phenomena characteristic of winter, we spend much more calories than in the warm season.
Weight loss in the cold season can also be explained by the fact that the human body at this time spends much more energy to prevent hypothermia, when the receptors that react to cold begin to actively send signals to the brain about extreme temperature drops and the need to activate the thermoregulation system. The body responds by increasing blood circulation, which increases energy expenditure through the calories from food. As a result, in winter, with a fairly active pace of life for physical activity, a person spends much more calories than they consume. And the result will be reduced. fat layer (it is burned to make up for the lack of energy for heating).
Rejuvenating Cold
Currently, the effect of cold is actively used in many controlled cosmetic procedures. An example of the positive impact of programmed cold is a cryochamber, when dosed cooling increases blood flow to organs, small vessels and capillaries, which ultimately leads to an improvement in the functioning of organs and systems that are sensitive to cold. This effect on the skin helps to smooth out wrinkles.
Even cold winds cause pores to shrink, which also improves skin tone.
Improving brain activity
The human body still retains the evolutionary mechanisms that allowed us to survive in an aggressive environment. One of these mechanisms is the instinct of self-preservation, which, in case of danger, stimulates the work of the brain and nervous system. And it is to such a danger that our body ranks a low ambient temperature. Perhaps this reason explains the factor noticed by many – in the cold it seems clearer.
In addition, a deeper inhalation of frosty air in a non-industrial area helps to improve the supply of oxygen to the brain, which responds favorably to such an abundance and works with increased efficiency.
Prevention of colds
At negative temperatures from -10°C to -15°C, the chances of contracting infectious diseases are reduced, since many pathogens die under this regimen. But do not forget that at temperatures close to zero and high humidity, the most comfortable conditions for the spread of pathogens remain.
Depression
It is known that daily walks in the frosty season increase the production of “happiness hormones”. Therefore, when you are in a bad mood or if you suffer from depression, you should not close yourself and your apartment. Regular walks even for 15 minutes will save you from a negative psychological feeling if it appeared for no apparent reason.
