What is tempting about mono-ingredient diets?

Holidays are the perfect time to tempt you with all the easy and quick methods of losing weight. Colorful magazines, websites compete in inventing the next miracle diet. Among them, it is difficult to overlook monodiet. Why are they so popular?

This is influenced by several aspects:

·       They promise wonderful “effects. Even if we decide to go on a diet 3 weeks before the holiday, we delude ourselves with the promise of reducing our wardrobe by at least 2 sizes.

·       They don’t require large ones financial outlays. For marketing reasons, diets of this type are based on seasonal products, the price of which is not excessive.

·       There are easy to use. They are based on one product, do not require time-consuming purchases of various food products, do not expect to compose fancy dishes.

·       They do not inform about side effects and difficulties. Descriptions and actions of diets are presented very optimistic, without any problems, they give the impression of one hundred percent effectiveness.

·       Carefully permission for unlimited consumption guiding products. It seems to us that if we can eat an unlimited amount of one of the products, we will not be hungry, we will lose weight easily and pleasantly.

Why not?

Everything seems simple and beautiful. Nothing but to eat and lose weight, and in a few weeks to enjoy a bikini in size xs. Unfortunately, it’s nice until we start following the rules. Despite these numerous apparent advantages, it must be borne in mind that mono-diets are only illusory dreams, it is playing on our emotions and desires. Prolonged use of one-ingredient meals can have dire consequences and will certainly not lead to the achievement of your dream figure, and if only for a short time.

There are some basic facts that should effectively scare us away from this type of experiment:

  • Ingredients shortage. There is no food product that would provide us with all the ingredients we need. So in order to maintain health and well-being, we must provide the body balanced meals, consisting of a variety of products. Deficiencies can be very dangerous, and the effects, depending on the ingredient, can be changed endlessly, min. weakness, anemia, decreased immunity, trouble sleeping, bone weakness, calf cramps….
  • Inadequate caloric intake – it happens so fast. Every product eaten without interruption, from morning to night, will sooner or later get bored. It comes to the point that it is better not to eat anything than to reach for the hated apple or cheese again. The effects of such fasting, apart from the impact on health, are devastating metabolism and further weight loss attempts. The scheme is very simple and logical – the metabolism decreases, the starved body tries to accumulate the smallest part of food for the next “difficult times”, return to the previous diet causes weight gain, and subsequent attempts to lose weight are much more difficult.

Remember – each subsequent attempt to lose weight with a miracle diet takes us away from achieving the goal for this very reason!

  • Too rapid weight lossAll monocomponent diets promise unimaginable rapid weight loss. Mostly, however, it is water, which quickly “escapes”, especially when using irrational diets, and (fortunately) returns just as quickly. In addition, a healthy diet should not lead to weight loss greater than 1 kg per week. Otherwise, the risk of the “yo-yo” effect increases dramatically.
  • No nutritional education. Diet cannot be a stage in life, but a way to do it. The weight loss period should be the time when we learn how to healthily compose meals, how to spread them during the day, what to avoid and what you can afford and in what quantity. Thanks to this, the next weight loss will not be needed anymore, we will know it forever principles of healthy eating and seeing the results achieved, we will not want to give them up. Any rules that are not feasible in the long run are nonsensical.

What diet in return?

The answer is simple – diet rational, providing the demand for all ingredients, individually adjusted. It is not worth wasting time and energy on diets that are only an illusion and do more harm than good. That is why, if we want to look perfect on vacation, let’s think about it beforehand, follow the rules of healthy eating, and not only the figure will improve, but also health and well-being.
