Research, like food – we order powerfully for home and office. Nearly 50 thousand monthly tests and blood tests are performed by the patient – the first smart lab in the world that commutes to customers. The “health with delivery” trend has been amplified by the pandemic.
The popularity of “tests with delivery” and the uPatient platform, thanks to which Poles can perform blood tests and consult online results without leaving their home or office, is growing at a dizzying pace. Only in the last year, the number of tests and tests performed with it has soared almost 5 times. About 20 customers use its services monthly. It is the world’s first smart lab platform that carries out blood tests and COVID-19 tests with transport to the customer.
Health with delivery – how does it work?
The patient selects the service he or she is interested in on the website, sets the date and time as well as the place of the examination. He can indicate a specialist who will conduct the visit – each member of the medical team has a profile with a description and the opinions of other patients about him. Test results are often available on the same day. They can be checked online and consulted with a specialist.
The platform was created for people who perform regular blood tests – pregnant women and parents with young children, the elderly, disabled or chronically ill, for whom visiting a stationary collection point is difficult, involves risk or stress, as well as working people who do not want to waste time in queues to clinics or collection points. The patient also performs research in companies and corporations.
“We have addressed a very important market need. Poles who fell in love with food or shopping with delivery saw that it was also possible to order tests for home and office. Only in 2020 the number of people actively using our platform increased almost threefold. ” – says Dominik Swadźba, the originator and president of uP Patient “
The trend of ordering home examinations was exacerbated by the pandemic – difficulties in moving and limited access to health care. Only in March this year, the number of Poles visiting a patient at home increased almost threefold compared to the time at the beginning of the pandemic.
Home blood tests from the patient can be ordered in the largest cities in Poland, but thanks to the cooperation with the Diagnostyka laboratory network, platform users also have access to over 1200 stationary collection points in the country. The company’s offer includes over 700 different tests, including COVID-19 tests. Soon, the company plans to introduce mail order testing, popular in Europe and the USA, to the Polish market.
Testing is in their blood
The founders of uP Patient are Dominik Swadźba and Konrad Kargol. The idea for the platform was born during his studies in London, where Dominik took his first steps in business.
“Initially, we wanted to operate in a market and in an industry that was not well known to us. This, however, did not work. Then one of the mentors told me “start doing what you know well and with people you know.” Then I realized that ideas should be sought in markets that you know and understand. Both Konrad and I are closely related to the medical industry and I think that it has made it much easier for us to identify niches and problems faced by Polish patients. We naturally started to think about creating innovation in a field that is much closer to us and which we understand better. ” – says Dominik Swadźba. “Interestingly, the idea of online medical consultations came from the UCL library in London. It can be said that this is where uPatient’s startup was born. ” – he adds.
Today, the patient employs nearly 200 people, including a qualified team of mobile nurses, midwives and paramedics. The company’s mission is to educate in the field of preventive health. The uP Patient Foundation will also start operating soon.
