Fanagoria

A bottle of Fanagoria premium cognac attracts attention with its unusual design: it looks like it is carved from a piece of mica. Specialists of JSC APF “Fanagoria” try to make the drink not inferior to the best French cognacs in taste. Fanagoria cognac is supplied to 60 regions of Russia.

Historical reference. Agro-industrial firm “Fanagoria” is located in the village of Sennoy, Temryuksky district, Krasnodar Territory. The company inherited production buildings, land and winemaking traditions from the wine and juice factory built here in 1963.

By the beginning of the XNUMXst century, the company was producing wines that were awarded at international competitions. But after the re-equipment, it was decided to expand the assortment of the enterprise at the expense of cognacs. The management set an ambitious task for the team: to make premium brandy exclusively from local spirits, without the use of French ones.

According to the recipe created by the technologists, distillates from three grape varieties are used for the production of Fanagoria cognac: Aligote, Riesling and Rkatsiteli. The Riesling variety delivers the most trouble to agronomists: it did not like the August fogs and dampness that characterize Taman’s weather. Instead of ripening, bunches of white grapes often begin to rot.

Another problem was that the taste of the distillates was different from the French counterparts. It turned out that the reason is too fertile soil and a fertile climate: the yield of grapes in the Krasnodar Territory is much higher than in France. Now every year, 2 months before the grapes ripen, agronomists calculate the estimated size of the grape harvest and compare them with the optimal ones. After that, workers manually cut off the extra clusters so that the remaining ones get more sunlight and nutrients from the soil.

In 2013, 3-, 5- and 10-year-old Fanagoria cognacs went on sale. Alcohols for them are distilled in copper alambika and aged in Caucasian oak barrels. But the real masterpiece was the Fanagoria Grand cognac, released in 2017, created from distillates that have been aged for 25 years in Limousin oak barrels.
