Famous Grouse (Fames Graus or Famous Partridge)

Famous Grouse (“Famous partridge”) – basically a brand of blended whiskey (although there are also single malts in the assortment) comes from the heart of Scotland, the city of Perth. Malt and grain spirits are delivered directly from the Glenturret distillery or purchased from other well-known brands. The drink is aged in special oak barrels from sherry and bourbon.

Among the mass of other producers, Famous Grouse can be recognized by the partridge pattern on the bottle. The bird beloved by the Scots is depicted not only on the label, but also on the bottle itself by squeezing onto the glass.

Famous Grouse Scotch whiskey became the winner in international competitions, taking first, second and third places. Popular events: International Spirits Challenge, World Spirit Competition, International Wine & Spirits Competition. Scotch has repeatedly received the Beverage Institute Award (Chicago).

Historical reference. The founder of the brand was Matthew Gloag, and the starting point of big business was the opening of a grocery store. This historical event took place back in 1800. Initially, things were going well for Matthew, but after 42 years, the situation has changed dramatically. At this time, the city of Perth was visited by Queen Victoria, the ruler of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, who tasted the local wine, after which the trading company Matthew Gloag & Son Ltd. offered to provide royal banquets with alcoholic beverages.

After 1842 with Matthew Gloag & Son Ltd. various events took place that were important for the development of the brand:

  • in 1860, the son of Matthew Gloag thought about the production of whiskey and brought the idea to life;
  • in 1896, the nephew of the founder of the company created the brand The Grouse, and his daughter designed and drew a label with the image of a partridge;
  • in 1905, The Famous Grouse was officially registered; 75 years later, the brand became the leader in the production of blended whiskey in Scotland;
  • in 1970, the rights to sell the alcoholic beverage passed to the Scottish company Highland Distillers;
  • since 1984, The Famous Grouse has been the official whiskey supplier to the court of Her Majesty the Queen;
  • in 2006, more than 3 million cases of whiskey were sold in various parts of the world.
