Some cosmetic products are able to perform not one, but several actions at once, and literally in a matter of minutes. It is to such means that the mask-scrub for the face belongs. Let’s talk about it in more detail.
Why do you need a scrub mask
Like any mask, the scrub mask is a product of rapid response and targeted action. The peculiarity of just such a mask lies in the abrasive particles, which, when washed off, work like a scrub, that is, they exfoliate dead cells, polish and renew the skin.
As a rule, scrub particles are included in masks aimed at intensive cleansing of the skin, as well as eliminating dullness. In general, this product is useful for everyone, because the skin of any type should be rid of dead cells from time to time. Especially it concerns:
combination and oily skin;
problem skin;
mature skin;
skin with uneven pigmentation.
Basic properties
The scrub mask does a double job: it cares for the skin during the exposure and removes dead cells during the rinsing process. Often, scrub masks have a clay base and are addressed to young skin with all the problems inherent in youth, including:
black dots (comedones);
acne
high fat content;
shine.
However, the fight against imperfections is not the only specialization of the scrub mask. You will be convinced of this by studying our review.

Features of composition
So, the scrub mask globally consists of two parts: base and abrasive.
The basis can be:
clay;
gel based on hydrates, sometimes with the inclusion of acids.
The abrasive can be any, at the choice of the manufacturer. The most common components are:
powdered apricot kernel shells;
berry seeds;
powder from volcanic rock;
synthetic granules (the softest);
sugar crystals.
How to apply
There are no special features in the use of such masks. But still, let’s talk about the rules:
a scrub mask is applied to a clean, washed face;
the skin can be steamed beforehand;
the product is distributed with hands (clean) or a brush on the entire face or only on the T-zone;
exposure time – 5-10 minutes (according to the instructions);
at the end of the exposure, the mask is wetted with water;
before washing off the scrub mask, it is necessary to massage the face in circular motions from the center of the face to the ears and temples (along the massage lines) in order to “roll” the abrasive particles;
The mask is washed off with lukewarm water.
Review of the best scrub masks
The editors of Healthy-Food have compiled their list of the best remedies.
Mineral peeling mask “Double Radiance”, Vichy
The hybrid product provides chemical and mechanical peeling. It contains fruit acids that help to shed dead cells from the epidermis and fine particles of volcanic origin that work like a very gentle scrub. Systemic application of the product returns smoothness and radiance to the skin.
Scrub, cleansing and giving radiance to the skin, “Apricot”, Garnier
Contains organic apricot oil. Perlite and apricot kernel act as exfoliating particles. Thanks to its delicate texture, the product gently cleanses the skin, restoring its radiance.
Mask for instant skin radiance Turmeric & Сranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque, Kiehl’s
Promises to restore skin radiance in 10 minutes, including the action of turmeric extract and cranberry seeds, which exfoliate dead cells that block the natural radiance of the skin.
3-in-1 Clear Skin Clay Facial, Garnier
A multi-use product that can be used as a wash gel, scrub and mask. In the composition – components to combat imperfections: eucalyptus, zinc, salicylic acid, white clay and pumice particles for high-quality exfoliation.
Mask-scrub for the face “Magic clay. Exfoliation and narrowing of pores, L’Oréal Paris
The mask contains three types of clay that absorbs sebum and impurities. The composition also contains an extract of red algae, which gives the skin smoothness. The result is clear skin with less visible pores.
Is it possible to make a scrub mask at home
An exfoliating mask is easy to make at home. The recipe is simple. First, choose an abrasive. There are several options:
ground coffee;
coffee grounds;
salt;
sugar;
chickpea flour (the softest option);
ground spices: cinnamon, nutmeg, turmeric. But be careful, these ingredients can cause a negative skin reaction.
You can make your own scrub mask.
Having decided on the abrasive, select the basis for the mask:
clay (kaolin, bentonite, green clay); the powder is diluted with water to a mushy consistency, then an abrasive is added to it (keep in mind that it is better not to test homemade clay masks on skin prone to dryness);
aloe vera gel is an ideal base for a homemade moisturizing mask with an exfoliating effect;
dairy product: yogurt – for normal and oily skin, sour cream or cream – for dry.
You can add a little lemon juice to any homemade scrub mask for a brightening effect and extra peeling.
Safety measures
It must be remembered that exfoliating the skin is not a daily procedure. Apply a scrub mask 1-2 times a week.
Clay-based scrub masks with coarse abrasive particles are not recommended for sensitive, reactive skin. In this case, gommages are suitable for exfoliation – scrubs with small and soft abrasive particles of synthetic origin or wax. An example is La Roche-Posay soft scrub.
