If the skin lacks radiance, beauty of tone and smoothness, peeling is a good solution. It is not advised to do it in the summer (although there are nuances here), but the season of the inactive sun is suitable for this procedure.
Why peeling is needed
In order for the skin to be in good shape and look great, its cells must be constantly updated. Naturally, keratinized scales accumulate on the surface of the skin, which interfere with regeneration and mix with external impurities. To remove this layer and activate the renewal process, peeling is needed.
Scrubbing improves microcirculation. And if the manufacturer has added antioxidants to his product, then the remedy also works on the effect of rejuvenation.

Peeling at home
Preparation for home peeling
Since home peeling (exfoliation) is part of the standard beauty care (we will talk about small differences for different skin types below), no special preparation is required for it, unlike salon procedures. For home peeling to be as effective as possible, the only requirement is a thorough preliminary cleansing of the skin.
Remove make-up and surface impurities with milk or micellar water.
Regular wash with foam or gel.
Although exfoliation is referred to as a deep cleansing of the skin, this procedure cannot replace a simple cleansing. First, remove makeup and wash your face.
After that, you can apply an exfoliating agent. Otherwise, the product will not reach the skin directly.
Mechanical exfoliants (scrubs, gommages) are applied to wet skin, massaged into the face and then washed off, while homemade chemical peels (lotions and creams with acids) work better on dry, cleansed skin.
Rules for home peeling
Yes, peeling is an effective procedure, but it is also stressful for the skin. So don’t forget the safety rules.
Exfoliate in the evening. New cells that hide under dead old ones are vulnerable to environmental factors: cold, heat, ultraviolet radiation. And the night after the procedure is useful for adaptation.
Apply scrubs to wet skin. The process should resemble a light massage: gentle circular movements from the center of the face to the periphery. From the forehead to the temples, from the chin to the ears and above, from the tip of the nose to the cheekbones.
Do not apply peeling (scrub, gommage) to the area around the eyes and lips.
The session should last 2-3 minutes. Then rinse thoroughly with water.

If you chose a peeling mask as a peeling agent, apply it only to dry skin. Spread over the entire face, except for the area around the eyes and lips, leave for 15-20 minutes. The mask should harden, after which it is removed by gently prying the film from below. Rinse off residue or remove with a damp sponge.
Remove the mask-film by gently prying it from below.
Care after home peeling
After exfoliation (deep cleansing), an equally deep care is required. So, it’s time to use:
moisturizing and / or nourishing mask;
serum;
cream;
the next day – enhanced sun protection.
After peeling, their effect will be as effective as possible.
Mechanical peeling is done without restrictions all year round, but immediately after it, you need to take care of your own skin and apply a protective cream before leaving the house in winter, and take care of sun protection in summer. After a chemical peel, even the most gentle home peel, a high SPF is a must!
Types of home peeling
Scrub
The most common exfoliator contains abrasive micro-particles that exfoliate the skin and remove dead cells. The scrub may be too harsh for dry and/or sensitive skin.
It is good if the scrub contains both exfoliating and absorbent components, like Scrub “Clean Skin Active” from Garnier with charcoal. These products effectively remove impurities.
If the skin is prone to imperfections, choose products with zinc (regulates sebum production) and soothing panthenol.
Gommage
The best thing you can think of for sensitive and dry problem skin. pay attention to “Soft scrub” from La Roche-Posay.
Gommages do not contain abrasives, but they may contain fruit acids and components with a care function. 15–20 minutes after application, the gommage is rolled off the skin surface, removing it along with the scales of the stratum corneum of the epidermis.
Film mask
It is useful if the skin is prone to the formation of black spots. By removing the mask-film in one sharp movement, you will remove both impurities and dead skin cells.
Scrub mask
The scrub mask is applied away from the lips and eyes.
Exfoliates dead skin cells, cleanses the skin of impurities. Usually contains clay, and sometimes – several of its varieties at once. Yes, in a scrub mask Clay Magic by L’Oréal Paris There are three types of clay:
kaolin removes impurities;
montmorillonite works with problem areas;
ghassoul makes the skin fresh, radiant.
Creams and gels based on acids
The most common are products with salicylic and fruit acids. They accelerate the processes of skin regeneration, while acting quite gently. This approach is justified in the fight against wrinkles and pigmentation, as well as acne. Such remedies are usually used more than once a week, sometimes even daily. However, it is important to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.
For example, the composition “Ultra-cleansing gel with a brush against acne ExfoPro” from Garnier, in addition to the phytocomplex, 2% salicylic acid is included, so it effectively fights imperfections.
Choosing the Right Facial Exfoliator
Dry and sensitive skin
Your choice is gommages. Apply, let dry a little, then gently roll off the skin with your fingertips. This gentle method will remove some of the impurities from the pores and dead cells of the stratum corneum.
A good option is acid peels for dry and sensitive skin. For example, night peeling, accelerating skin renewal, in ampoules “Revitalift Laser x3” with glycolic acid, L’Oréal Paris.
Peeling should be done in the evening at the frequency indicated on the product label.
Apply the product on the face with smoothing movements.
Use sunscreen in the morning.
Oily skin
Suitable for all exfoliating products. But best of all with expanded pores, excess sebum and black dots, a scrub or mask-film will cope.
Exfoliate regularly.
Scrubs apply in a circular motion strictly along the massage lines. Remove the mask-film after 15-20 minutes, from the bottom up.
After peeling, use a soothing and sebum-regulating zinc treatment. Garnier steaming mask for oily skin already contains zinc and exfoliating clay.
Combination skin
Acid-based peels are useful. If blackheads often form on oily areas of the skin, use clay cleansing masks.
With adult acne, special products help to cope – such as serum for the correction of acne and age-related skin changes. Blemish & Age Defense, SkinCeuticals, in which glycolic and salicylic acids are combined. Result: a gentle effect on dry areas, plus effective peeling and sebum control on oily areas.
Problem Skin
Alternate peeling based on fruit acids and masks with clay. Deep cleansing and exfoliating skin mineral mask, Vichy combines the action of fruit acids and particles of volcanic origin, which gently remove dead cells. Please note that with an active inflammatory process, exfoliation is not recommended.
