Facial emulsion

In the wake of the general popularity of cosmetics from Korea, the emulsion has become a highly sought-after product. Light, very pleasant in texture, it is well distributed over the skin, instantly gives comfort and hydration. What else do you need to know about facial emulsion and what is it for?

What is a facial emulsion and why is it needed

If we talk about moisturizers for the face, then the emulsion can be put on a par with the cream.

Emulsion (English emulsion) for the face is a substance consisting of two phases, oil and water, which are evenly mixed using emulsifiers. The result is a very light substance, something between a cream, serum and lotion. The emulsion is a fairly light product – it is much lighter than a cream in consistency, but noticeably thicker and less concentrated than a serum.

There are two types of emulsions:

  1. “oil in water”;

  2. “water in oil”.

The emulsion is a fairly light product. It is usually used after serum and before cream.

Emulsion type “oil in water”

Fats, oils or wax are diluted in the aquatic environment. How do these emulsions work? Their most important advantage is that they perfectly soften the skin, forming a kind of very thin film on its surface, which prevents moisture from evaporating.

Emulsion type “water in oil”

Water-soluble caring components are placed in an oily environment. The task of such an emulsion is to enhance the action of active ingredients and serve as a conductor for their penetration into the skin.

What else do you need to know about emulsions? Like any other cosmetic product, they can lose all their positive properties in several cases:

  • in case of violation of the temperature regime of storage;

  • as a result of unwanted chemical reactions;

  • in case of bacterial infection.

In cosmetics, any emulsion is an excellent system for delivering active ingredients to the skin. The emulsion bottle is best stored in a cool, dark place.

Composition

The composition of the emulsions includes popular effective ingredients. Depending on the individual problems and characteristics of the skin, it is worth looking for an emulsion that includes moisturizing, soothing or anti-aging components.

We have provided some examples in the table below. But it is interesting to note that in the Korean system of care, the emulsion is an intermediate step between cleansing the skin and applying the cream.

Skin type

Active substances

Dry skin

Hyaluronic acid, olive, avocado, camellia oils.

Oily and combination skin

Tea tree oil, aloe vera, witch hazel extract.

Normal skin

Hyaluronic acid, precious oils, coenzyme Q10.

Aging skin

Collagen, peptides, coenzyme Q10, hyaluronic acid.

Types of facial emulsion

According to the principle of action, emulsions are different moisturizing, anti-aging, sunscreen.

Among all the emulsions that exist today, several of the most popular categories can be distinguished.

Moisturizing

These emulsions are suitable for all skin types. They perfectly moisturize dry and dehydrated skin, give the necessary moisture to oily skin and serve as a good prevention of dehydration for owners of normal and combination skin.

Cleansing

The task of cleansing emulsions is to reliably and effectively remove any impurities from the face, whether it be makeup or just dust and dirt accumulated on the skin during the day. In addition, cleansing emulsions provide quality care. Antioxidants and vitamins saturate the skin with the necessary substances in which it is deficient, and at the same time soften it.

How to use the cleansing emulsion

  1. Apply the product only on dry skin. Spreading it over the face, move your fingers gently, without stretching the skin.

  2. Moisten the pads of your fingers with water and gently massage the skin until you see that the product turns white and gradually turns into a gentle foam or milk.

  3. Wash off with warm water.

Nutritious

As the name implies, these types of emulsions are designed to supply the skin with nutrients. Use after cleansing, toning and serum application. After the emulsion, do not forget to apply a nourishing cream.

Matting

In the composition of matting emulsions, there are always substances that absorb sebum.

Corrective

Corrective emulsions provide invaluable assistance in the fight against imperfections: black dots, oily sheen, enlarged pores. The composition of such emulsions includes antibacterial and sebum-regulating components.

Anti aging

Anti-aging emulsions combine active care and high-quality hydration. They are also applied before the main cream.

Sun protection

Until recently, it was believed that sunscreen cosmetics should be used only during a vacation at sea. Today, no one needs to prove that the use of products with SPF is becoming a familiar and routine way of taking care of yourself. Sun protection emulsion increases the effectiveness of all subsequent care products and provides protection from ultraviolet radiation.

Rating of the best emulsions

To date, there is definitely no shortage of emulsions for the face. We have prepared for you a brief overview of the tools that we consider the best (according to the editors, of course).

Moisturizing emulsion Hydra Zen Glow, Lancôme

It has a light pleasant texture, strengthens the protective barrier. Contains amino acids, hyaluronic acid, rose extracts and aloe vera.

Emulsion Life Plankton Sensitive Emulsion, Biotherm

Emulsion with thermal plankton extract moisturizes, soothes and strengthens sensitive skin.

Melting Sun Emulsion with Wet Technology, SPF 50, Idéal Soleil, Vichy

Vacation is a great option. The product really literally melts on the skin, it is very easy to apply to both dry and wet skin. It has a huge advantage – it contains vitamin E and mineralizing water, which have an antioxidant effect.

Moisturizing, mattifying, sebum-regulating emulsion Effaclar Mat, La Roche-Posay

Designed for those with oily and problematic skin. If you act systematically and apply the product twice a day, there is a high probability of reducing the production of sebum and narrowing the pores. The Sebulyse component at the base of the formula will provide a matte effect and sebum-regulating action.

How to choose a skin emulsion

When choosing a particular emulsion for the face, it is always worth considering several important factors, such as:

  • skin type;

  • composition of the product;

  • manufacturer;

  • individual characteristics of the skin.

How to use facial emulsion

Emulsions act as emollients on the skin. They make it pleasant to the touch, moisturize / nourish, fill wrinkles.

How to use the cleansing emulsion, we described above. All others should be used as follows.

  • After cleansing, toning and applying serum (if you use it), take a couple of drops of the emulsion on the pads of your fingers and gently spread them over your face.

  • No need to rub the product, the movements should be light and patting.

  • After 5-7 minutes, when the emulsion is absorbed, apply the usual cream.
