Now there are already three people in the world who have undergone a face transplant operation. The first incident happened in 2005. Then the French woman Isabelle Dinoir had the lower part of her face transplanted. Donor tissues did not take root for a long time, but now a woman can already eat, speak and feel with new skin.
The second such operation was carried out in 2006 in China. Then a resident of Yunnan province replaced the entire right half of the face with tissues of a 25-year-old man who died in a car accident. Doctors now assess the patient’s health as satisfactory.
The most difficult transplant case occurred in Paris in January 2007. Then the doctors rescued a man whose face was disfigured by an extensive tumor. Currently, the man has already been able to get a job.
All of the above cases confirm that face transplantation is effective and technically feasible, which means that it may well find wide practice.
