Face scrub: recipe for a homemade face scrub
The purpose of a facial scrub is to rid the skin of dead cells. This has the immediate effect of oxygenating it and giving it radiance. Even if there are many exfoliating products on the market, it is very simple and more economical to make a homemade scrub, thanks to good recipes.
What is a facial scrub?
The principle of a facial scrub
There are two types of scrubs – also called exfoliations. First the mechanical scrub. Thanks to a formulation composed of a fatty or creamy substance and balls or grains, a circular movement is carried out. It will help rid the skin of dead cells present on the surface layer of the skin.
The other scrub is chemical and is applied as a mask. It has the advantage of being suitable for sensitive skin which cannot stand mechanical exfoliation. It is made up of enzymes that on their own cleanse the skin of dead cells. Be careful not to confuse chemical exfoliation with a peel, the latter being based on fruit acids.
To make a homemade scrub, the mechanical method is the most accessible.
The objectives of a homemade facial scrub
Once a week or two at most, a facial scrub is an integral part of a quality beauty routine, whatever your skin type. Thanks to the circular movement, the scrub removes on the one hand the dead skin which suffocates the epidermis and prevents the treatments from penetrating. And, on the other hand, the scrub has the effect of activating the blood micro-circulation. This guarantees the radiance of the complexion and allows better collagen production, in other words firmer skin.
The benefits of a homemade facial scrub
Consumers are increasingly attentive to the composition of cosmetic products. Making a homemade scrub allows you, like a cooking recipe, to know what you are putting in it and what your skin will absorb. In addition, a scrub is undoubtedly the easiest thing to do at home in the field of home cosmetics and requires few products. A homemade scrub is therefore doubly economical.
A homemade exfoliation recipe for each skin type
While homemade scrubs are cheap and effective, you must nevertheless choose a recipe that suits your skin type so as not to attack your skin. In all cases, the way to proceed is the same:
In a small bowl, prepare your mixture. Moisten your face with warm, non-hard water or floral water. Pour the mixture into one palm, then gently rub both hands together before applying the scrub to your face. Massage gently, in a circular fashion, not forgetting the wings of the nose, but avoiding the eye area. Rinse off with lukewarm water, then pat gently with a terry towel to dry. Then apply your care as usual or a hydrating mask.
Homemade scrub for dry skin
Mix together a teaspoon of fine grain sugar, a teaspoon of honey and a teaspoon of borage vegetable oil. This oil is ideal for dry skin, it helps them to produce more lipids. Honey is nourishing and very soothing.
Homemade scrub for oily skin
Contrary to what one might think, oily skin should not be stripped. It must also be treated gently to avoid attacking the sebaceous glands, which would produce even more sebum. Mix a teaspoon of nourishing and rebalancing jojoba oil and a teaspoon of baking soda. Use very gentle circular motions.
Homemade scrub for combination skin
The scrub for combination skin should purify while protecting dry areas. To do this, mix 10 drops of lemon juice with a teaspoon of honey and a teaspoon of sugar.
Homemade scrub for sensitive skin
For sensitive skin, any abrasive product should be avoided. We will then move towards a tablespoon of coffee grounds, mixed with a nourishing oil such as sweet almond oil for example so as to create a soft exfoliating paste.
For more efficiency, perform your exfoliation in the evening and thus benefit from your care more intensely, the skin regenerating at night.
