Face oil for wrinkles

In ancient times, when there were no creams or serums, oil was the only way to protect the skin from aging. Today, despite the abundance of high-tech competitors, face oil continues to keep the defense against wrinkles and is even actively used in cosmetic formulas. There are reasons for that.

How cosmetic oils affect the skin of the face

Cosmetic oil is a ready-to-use oil-based product.

Whether it will become an assistant in the fight against wrinkles depends on the composition, because cosmetic oil can be:

  • refined vegetable oil;

  • mineral oil;

  • a cocktail of vegetable and essential oils;

  • synthesized oil.

And all of them will at least prevent dryness – oil products (natural or synthetic) have the ability to seal moisture in the skin, forming a thin protective film on the surface of the epidermis.

If we expect something more from the oil cocktail, for example, anti-aging action and are looking for an anti-wrinkle oil, we need to take a closer look at the description and purpose of the product.

The fact is that vegetable oils:

  1. have moisturizing and nourishing properties, which means they help the skin stay hydrated (one of the main indicators of youthful skin) and elastic, thus preventing the formation of wrinkles;

  2. contain fatty acids (oleic, linoleic and linolenic), necessary for the skin to perform one of its main functions – barrier;

  3. rich in vitamins and trace elements that help maintain the barrier properties of the skin, have antioxidant properties.

As for essential oils, their tiny molecules are complex compounds that:

  1. have good penetrating ability;

  2. can stimulate our cells and even affect fibrolasts, which synthesize the most important components of the skin responsible for its elasticity and youth – collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.

Japanese researchers conducted an experiment that confirmed the neutralizing effect of certain essential oils on the elastase enzyme, which destroys elastin, which is so important for maintaining skin elasticity and its youthful appearance. Special merits in this direction were noted for citrus oils, but not only for them. So massage with essential oils may well be appropriate for anti-aging action.

Противопоказания

People with oily skin, characterized by active sebaceous glands, should be especially selective in the use of vegetable oils in their pure form and take into account the comedogenic index. However, if the finished cosmetic oil indicates that the product is intended for oily skin (or all skin types), it can be used.

Essential oils in individual cases can cause allergies. Therefore, products with them should always be tested on a small area of uXNUMXbuXNUMXbthe skin. And never apply essential oil in its pure form as a cosmetic treatment.

Types of oils for wrinkles

Oils are usually divided into base and essential oils. This means that any facial anti-wrinkle cosmetic oil is a cocktail of a base (vegetable oil or a mixture of oils) and an essential oil, which serves as an additive that gives the composition additional properties and a peculiar aroma.

In cosmetics, two types of oils are used – base and essential.

Base vegetable oils

Vegetable oils are extremely rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, vitamins, antioxidants, they have large molecules and work on the surface of the skin, but at the same time they do a very important job:

  • soften;

  • soothe;

  • smooth;

  • prevent dryness;

  • nourish;

  • restore the hydrolipidic film;

  • protect.

Which face oil for wrinkles and skin elasticity to choose?

The most effective for these purposes are:

  • wheat germ oil – contains vitamins and antioxidants, improves skin tone;

  • jojoba oil – liquid wax, similar in properties to sebum, is well absorbed, does not leave a feeling of greasiness, helps to restore the epidermis, makes the skin more elastic and supple;

  • rosehip oil – improves metabolic processes and strengthens the protective barrier of the skin, fights dryness and irritation, ideal for oily skin, having a low comedogenic index (more on that below);

  • avocado oil – is perceived by the skin as a related substance, contains vitamin A and helps to restore the epidermis, the activity of avocado oil in the composition of anti-wrinkle products has been proven.

Essential oils

These are volatile mixtures that do not dissolve in water, but combine perfectly with a greasy base. Can contain up to 500 active compounds! Their molecules are smaller than those of vegetable oils. In addition, through the sense of smell, they affect the nervous and limbic systems. That is why there is an emotional component to the use of oil formulations. So the fight against wrinkles can turn into a pleasure, provided that a quality finished product or a masterfully composed mixture according to one’s own recipe is used.

Here is a list of the best anti-aging essential oils for the face:

  • rose oil, in addition to a breathtaking feminine aroma, has the gift of restoring skin tone, strengthening its protection;

  • pine tones the skin and works as an antioxidant;

  • fennel strengthens the skin, reduces puffiness;

  • sandalwood has a relaxing effect, fights dryness and fine wrinkles;

  • geranium promotes cellular renewal and evens out the skin relief;

  • orange tones, relieves fatigue;

  • rosemary protects against free radicals;

  • lavender relaxes, has antioxidant properties, fights mimic wrinkles.

How to choose the most effective oil that smoothes wrinkles

The main indicator that you need to consider when choosing natural oils for the face against wrinkles is the comedogenic index. This scale, from 0 to 5 points, shows how much a particular product is capable of clogging pores.

Comedogenic index

Oil

0 – the oil does not clog pores and can be used for any skin type

shea, mineral, hemp, argan
1 – low probability of clogging pores

ylang-ylang, mango, rosehip, castor, sea buckthorn

2 – moderately low probability

almond, apricot kernel, avocado, evening primrose, grape seed, hazelnut, peach (peach kernel), jojoba

3 – moderate probability

soy, olive

4 – high enough

coconut, cocoa

5 – very high

wheat germ

However, we emphasize that this information applies exclusively to the use of oils in their pure form. Any of these oils can be found in the composition of finished cosmetics marked “non-comedogenic” and, due to the well-thought-out formula of the product, have a positive effect without negative consequences.

For dry skin and normal

When choosing anti-wrinkle oils for dry skin (as well as for normal skin), you can experiment with different types of oils. At the same time, for example, we would recommend using coconut oil, which is very popular and loved by everyone, for the hair and skin of the body, but not for the face.

For oily skin

People with oily and combination skin types, which already produce a large amount of sebum, should always pay attention to whether there is a “non-comedogenic” mark on the cosmetic product. However, as practice shows, by the time it comes to wrinkles on the face, excess oiliness of the skin has already passed.

Over the years, the skin tends to become drier. However, in any case, this does not mean that for owners of oily skin oil care is prohibited. We have a separate article devoted to this topic.

For problematic

Oily problematic skin lacks “good” fatty acids (linoleic and linolenic), which adversely affects its protective functions. Oils rich in linoleic acid, such as rosehip and grape seed oils, will help fill the deficiency.

Is it possible to use a mixture of different oils for wrinkles

Of course, you can, but the question is how competently the cocktail is composed and from what components.

Everyone can prepare a mixture of facial oils for wrinkles (at least elementary) on their own, taking as a basis an oil that matches the type of skin and adding a few drops of essential oil to it. It is imperative that the base oils are cold pressed and the essential oils are of high quality.
