Face masks for aging skin

The first wrinkles and increased dryness of the skin are an excellent reason to try on a cosmetic mask. What they are, what components they contain and what result they promise, we will tell in this article.

How does the mask work on aging skin

Masks are one of the most effective skin care products, especially for aging skin. Unlike creams and serums, they can be not only part of a regular beauty ritual, but also an express assistant if you need a quick result before going out.

A fast result is guaranteed by a high concentration of active ingredients. A properly selected mask, depending on the declared properties, will provide the skin with:

  • hydration and nutrition;

  • peeling and cell renewal;

  • light clarification and leveling of the relief;

  • restoration of barrier properties;
  • firming and lifting effect.

With our test, you will find out which mask is right for you.

Types of masks for aging skin

By properties and, accordingly, the composition of the mask are divided into the following categories:

  • moisturizers;

  • nutritious;

  • cleansing: for oily skin – mineral, for dry – with the effect of delicate chemical peeling;

  • tightening.

But more often a mask for aging skin combines several properties at once.

The texture of the mask can be:

  • gel;

  • cream;

  • powdery;

  • tissue;

  • biocellulose;

  • plastic – based on paraffin, resins or pectin: they are usually applied in a heated state, and their main purpose is lifting.

Aging skin is dehydrated, regardless of the original type, so it needs to be moisturized first.

Selection rules

When choosing a mask, be guided by your skin type, but do not forget about additional hydration.

With combination skin, trendy multi-masking is ideal (different products for different areas).

If the mask contains some “risky” ingredient that you have not used before (retinol, for example), start with a product where its concentration is low. And gradually switch to cosmetics with a higher concentration of this component. So you teach the skin to accept this substance without excesses.

Application rules

Brands that we trust and recommend to you, always prescribe in detail the instructions for using the product. Your task is to follow it.

For those who are too lazy to read, we recall:

  • the mask is applied to clean and toned skin of the face (and often also the neck and décolleté), avoiding the area around the eyes and lips;

  • wash off (if it is not a night and not a tissue mask and it is not indicated that it should be used otherwise) after 10-20 minutes or remove the remnants with a napkin (cotton pad / sponge).

We observe the measure and caution

Before the first use, it is advisable to test the mask in order to exclude individual intolerance.

Follow the instructions – do not overexpose the mask, so as not to get the opposite effect from its application.

And once again we recall that everything is always good in moderation, without fanaticism. So don’t get carried away. The result of the mask is quick and noticeable, but you will have to suppress the desire to use this treatment more often than the manufacturer recommends. After all, in this way you risk overloading the skin and weaning it from working independently.
