Face lifting is a procedure aimed at stretching the sagging skin of the face. Lifting guarantees a clear lifting of the skin as well as the reduction of wrinkles. Among the lifting treatments, there is an invasive face lift, as well as a number of non-invasive treatments.

The first signs of skin aging appear after the age of 25 – it is related to the gradual disappearance of collagen fibers. However, only around the age of 40 the changes are so large that you can see them with the naked eye. The main signs of skin aging include numerous wrinkles and furrows around the eyes, lips (so-called mimic wrinkles) and forehead (horizontal lines and so-called lion’s wrinkle), as well as excess skin around the lower jaw. Additionally, the face loses its natural oval and the shape of the eyebrows and eyes changes.

In order to clearly undo the visible effects of aging, more and more often face lifting is performed, which consists in stretching and removing excess facial skin to give it an oval and eliminate wrinkles.

Types of face lifting

Currently, face lifting is carried out in two ways:

Invasive face lift – is a surgical procedure performed under anesthesia by a plastic surgeon. Surgical facelift involves incision of the facial skin at the temple, along the hairline, as well as in front of and behind the ear. In these places, the doctor stretches the skin so that the face regains the correct contour. The excess skin resulting from stretching is removed. In the places of incisions, the doctor places thin and precise sutures so that they leave invisible scars after healing. After the procedure, the patient is observed in the clinic for about 48 hours; the seams are removed after about 7 days, and the final one effect it is visible after about 6 months, when the swelling has subsided.

Surgical face lifting is a permanent procedure and there is no need to repeat it after a few or a dozen years. As an invasive face lift is an operation performed under general anesthesia, there are several contraindications to the procedure. These include: pregnancy or breastfeeding, diagnosed cancer, epilepsy, diabetes, autoimmune diseases.

After face lift surgery, unpleasant side effects may occur, such as pain, excessive hair loss, paralysis of the facial nerves, and keloids. An alternative to the classic face lift are non-invasive treatments, for example:

Volumetric lifting – it is an aesthetic medicine procedure consisting in injecting a preparation containing hyaluronic acid, lactic acid or calcium hydroxyapatite into the deep layers of the skin. As a result, those areas of the face that have lost their firmness and tension are filled. Thanks to volumetry, you can lift drooping cheeks, fill wrinkles under the eyes in the so-called valley of tears, model the line of the jaw and chin, reduce smaller wrinkles.

The procedure is almost painless, but it can be performed under local anesthesia. After volumetry, unpleasant effects such as pain, bruising and swelling may appear. The volumetry effect is visible immediately after the treatment and lasts for about a year and a half.

Contraindication to this type of facelift is vitiligo, allergy to the ingredients of the filling preparation, psoriasis, epilepsy, pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Instead of a lifting treatment, you can regularly use the UPGRADE Sensilis firming and correcting anti-wrinkle day cream in combination with the same brand’s Firming and correcting anti-wrinkle night cream.

Lifting threads – is a procedure involving the injection of long hyaluronic threads into the deep layers of the skin. Hyaluronic threads introduced in this way create a kind of scaffolding that lifts the relevant parts of the face. The treatment with the use of hyaluronic threads allows you to: lift the corners of the mouth, tighten the skin, raise the eyebrow and the outer corner of the eye, raise the face oval.

The effects of face lifting with the use of hyaluronic threads are visible immediately, and the final effect – after about 3 months; lasts for about 12 months.

Contraindications to face lifting using threads are: pregnancy and breastfeeding, allergy to hyaluronic acid, skin infection.

Non-invasive methods of face lifting are often as effective as a traditional, surgical facelift. The main advantage of the former is the fact that convalescence after the procedure is much shorter, the procedure itself is less painful, and the risk of complications is much lower. However, these treatments are not completely defect-free – they should be repeated every 1-1,5 years to maintain the visible face lifting effect.
