Ezetrol – composition of the preparation, action and applications

Ezetrol is a blood cholesterol-lowering drug.

The composition of the Ezetrol preparation

The active substance in Ezetrol is ezetimibe, which acts on the cardiovascular system by lowering levels of ‘bad’ cholesterol, or LDL cholesterol, in the blood.

The action of Ezetrol

Ezetrol works by reducing the level of cholesterol in the blood. This has a beneficial effect on the entire circulatory system, because too high LDL cholesterol levels can lead to the formation of atherosclerotic lesions, which is truly life-threatening.

Ezetrol indications for use

The indication for taking Ezetrol is high cholesterol and triglycerides. During the treatment with Ezetrolom, it is important that the patient additionally follows the principles of a healthy diet, which is aimed at reducing the level of blood lipids.

Contraindications to the use of Ezetrol

Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation is a contraindication to the use of the cholesterol-lowering drug Ezetrol.

Ezetrol should also not be taken by patients with liver problems.

It is not advisable to take Ezetrol with other cholesterol-lowering drugs.

Before starting therapy, inform your doctor about all medications you are taking at a given time, including those available without a prescription.

Ezetrol should not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Pregnant women should only be given Ezetrol if the potential benefit to the patient outweighs the risk to the fetus.

How is Ezetrol used?

Ezetrol is a tablet that is taken by mouth. The dose, frequency and duration of therapy are determined by the doctor individually for a given case. Ezetrol can be taken with or without food, at any time of the day.

If you are taking a bile acid sequestrant concomitantly, you should take Ezetrol at least two hours before or four hours after taking your medicine.

Side effects of Ezetrol

While taking Ezetrol, you may experience side effects such as headache, abdominal pain, digestive system disorders and liver dysfunction. There may also be changes in blood counts, so you should monitor your blood picture on an ongoing basis (regular check-ups).

Precautions when using Ezetrol

Ezetrol has no influence on the ability to operate machinery and drive vehicles.

Ezetrol should not be used after the expiry date stated on the package. The preparation should be stored at room temperature, out of the reach of children.
