Specialists at the University of Sassari surveyed more than two hundred bank employees, who were asked to answer questions about stress levels, working conditions and eye strain while working on a computer. All employees did not suffer from eye diseases and did the same job.
Every third respondent noted eye strain at least three times a week, and 13 percent – daily. Eye strain was manifested by itching, pain or pressure in the eyes, blurred vision, or double vision during or immediately after work.
More than 30 percent of those who filed a complaint said they experience stress at work. These people were characterized by low self-esteem, a high level of conflict, dissatisfaction with their social status.
People who received support from other employees and felt comfortable had 30 percent less eye strain. At the same time, the illumination of the workplace, in contrast to noise and tobacco smoke, did not affect the frequency of eye symptoms.
