Fluffiness is characteristic of naturally curly, as well as thin wavy hair (especially light). Straight strands usually do not push. If the hair has such an effect, you need to find out the reason. And Natalya Nazarova, an independent expert in trichology at L’Oreal Paris, will help with this.
Causes of fluffiness
One of the most common causes of frizziness is due to poor home care. The constant use of styling tools without thermal protection violates the integrity of the upper layer of the hair – the cuticle scales open, and it begins to lose moisture. And it gets even drier towards the ends.
Hormonal failure sometimes leads to oily scalp. To solve this problem, choosing a shampoo for oily hair will be a mistake. Too aggressive a product can damage the hair shaft and lead to frizz.
Coloring, perming or straightening your hair also robs your hair of its smoothness. It is important that the master in the salon, using a highly alkaline dye, does not forget to apply a special tool to close the cuticle. When it opens, moisture evaporates, and the hair begins to fluff and dry.
The fluffiness is also affected by the heating season, which is associated with a temperature difference (outdoors and indoors) and increases electrification (especially thin blond hair with an initially loose cuticle structure).
The natural cause of fluffiness is length. In long hair, fluffiness increases towards the tips.
Neglect of thermal protection will sooner or later damage the cuticle.
What if the hair is frizzy?
There is often a prejudice against products with silicones, but in the fight against frizz, silicones in the composition of shampoo and conditioner are just very appropriate. They will help seal the cuticle and keep moisture in the hair. Please note that silicones tend to accumulate, which will lead to heavier hair. Therefore, you should not get carried away with them.
After cleansing, conditioning or masking, apply leave-in oil to the ends of your hair. When using a hair dryer, thermal protection is required, which will protect the hair from high temperatures. It is undesirable to use flat irons, which additionally damage the hair structure and lead to moisture loss. The strands will look smooth for some time, but in the long run, regular heat styling will have a devastating effect on the cuticle, overdrying the hair will lead to brittleness and excessive fluffiness.
For long-haired girls, leave-in care or tip oil is part of the mandatory program.
The composition of the conditioner or balm should include moisturizing ingredients. But they should not be abused either. Too long exposure to active substances weighs down the hair, so you must observe the exposure time indicated on the package. Longer doesn’t mean better. If you overdo it, there is a risk that the hair will look unsightly.
Terry towels always provoke fluffiness. It is better to dry your hair with a silk towel and sleep on a silk pillowcase, which reduces friction. Give preference to combs made from natural materials. Plastic electrifies hair and makes it frizzy.
Sleeping on a silk pillowcase is very pleasant and very beneficial for the skin and hair.
Improper nutrition can also cause dry hair. Adjust your diet by adding foods rich in B vitamins and omega-3 and -6 polyunsaturated fatty acids.
In conclusion, I would recommend intensive moisturizing. Use masks for this purpose, which will provide hair with nutrition and retain moisture. But don’t overdo it. The recommended frequency of use of such masks is once every 10-14 days. Also, try to alternate between sulfate-free and sulfate-free shampoos.
Active moisturizing hair care is the right way to tame and smooth your hair.
Healthy Food Recommendations
We would include the following L’Oréal Paris products in our anti-frizz and electrification program.
Shampoo for weakened or damaged hair “Elsev. Full recovery 5”
Botanicals Lavender Moisturizing Shampoo for fine hair
Moisturizing is the first rule of care for frizzy hair. Moreover, fluffiness is often the problem of fine hair. This shampoo is infused with naturally-derived moisturizing oils for gentle care and smells wonderfully of lavender essential oil.
Shampoo for fine hair “Elsev Fibrology”
The formula of the shampoo contains the active molecule filoxan, which has the ability to penetrate the hair cuticle and compact it, making the hair visually thicker, and the hair itself thicker and stronger.
Rinse-off hair conditioner “Magic Water. Lamellar care. 8 seconds”, Elseve “Dream length” for long damaged hair
From our point of view, a truly unique tool. In just 8 seconds, the hair really changes, becomes smooth and shiny, without a hint of fluffiness. The secret is in a special lamellar technology. It is described in detail here.
Moisturizing mask Elseve “Hyaluron Filler” for dehydrated and thin hair, with hyaluronic acid
Cream for brittleness “Checked with a comb”
Leave-in care should be included in the daily routine if the hair suffers from dryness, electrification, tangles and breaks. The cream is saturated with B vitamins and arginine to protect hair from the damaging effects of external factors. It is also suitable for thermal protection. Neglecting it sooner or later leads to fluffiness, excessive porosity, and dehydration of the hair.
