Experiment: How the Body Will Change if You Give Up the Elevator
And what do those who have already tried it think of climbing stairs?
It seems that daily walking up the stairs is an easy and effective way to keep fit and stay healthy. But how are things going in practice? Katya Solnechnaya, PR-specialist of Zoon.ru will help us to figure it out. During the quarantine, she made a strong-willed decision to walk the stairs every day, and that’s what came of it.
“With the closure of gyms and clubs, I had to come up with physical activity out of everything I could. Since I live on the 12th floor, I thought why not go up the stairs home during the pandemic. I started my “ladder marathon” on March 18 and continue in the same spirit to this day. I go down and go up 3-4 times a day. Even for delivery, I go down myself, I ask the couriers to wait for me on the street.
The first days were hard both mentally and physically. There were great temptations to go to the next door and press the elevator call button. But through “I do not want” I walked up the stairs. Of course, going down is easier, going up is a whole quest. 240 steps. It is very easy to break down, especially when the courier handed the delivery to you and you are carrying it upstairs.
From the point of view of physical fitness, I do not notice the results. Perhaps the legs have become stronger. But if before I reached the 7th floor and stopped to take a breath, now without shortness of breath I reach the 12th floor, chatting on the phone with friends. As for the weight, I have not gained extra pounds, I still keep to my usual weight, ”she said.
