With the help of the cough reflex, the body clears the respiratory tract of dust, mucus, harmful microorganisms. Sometimes it is a manifestation of allergies, but more often it serves as a symptom of colds: bronchitis, tracheitis, laryngitis, rhinitis, pneumonia.

When prescribing drugs, the nature of the cough must be taken into account. A paroxysmal, barking, suffocating cough without mucus is called dry. He is treated with drugs that suppress the cough reflex.

Expectorants and mucolytics help with wet coughs

Regardless of how the disease progresses, a doctor must prescribe medications. Only he knows what drugs and in what quantities a pregnant woman can take.

For women carrying a child, therapists recommend, as a rule, to drink herbal syrups. A mandatory requirement for such drugs is that they should not contain alcohol. Unlike tablets, syrups act quickly and gently. Expectorants during pregnancy may contain extracts of mallow, thyme, primrose, plantain, licorice, marshmallow.

If the herbal remedy does not help, the doctor may prescribe funds with ambroxol and bromhexine.

You can make a safe expectorant syrup yourself. For this, the root crop of black radish is peeled and grated. When the resulting gruel releases juice, it is filtered through cheesecloth. Radish juice is mixed with two teaspoons of honey. They drink syrup three times a day for a tablespoon.

Special breast fees help with coughing. The medicinal broth can also be prepared according to one of the following recipes:

  • Dried figs (4 pcs.) Pour milk (600 ml). Boil until the broth turns brown. Strain. Drink 0,5 cups three times a day.
  • In a liter of water, cook peeled onions (0,5 kg) with the addition of honey (2 tablespoons) and sugar (0,4 kg). Cool, drain after 3 hours. Drink 4-6 times a day for a tablespoon.
  • Pour boiling water over raisins (50 g) (glass). Insist under the lid for half an hour. Strain, add onion juice (3 tablespoons). Drink at one time before bed.

The phlegm will go away more easily if you do soda and honey inhalations 3-4 times a day. You can also brew chopped sage at the rate of 2 tablespoons of raw materials per glass of boiling water. After a third of an hour, when the herb is infused, they begin to inhale the vapors. Important: inhalations can be done provided that there is no fever.

So, expectorant drugs – syrups and tablets – are prescribed for a wet cough. During pregnancy, it is advisable to be treated with herbal remedies that do not increase blood pressure and do not cause contraction of the uterine muscles.
