Exfoliating and keratotic foot mycosis – how is it diagnosed?

Syn.: Tinea desquamative and hyperkeratotic of the feet and hands, tinea pedis hyperkeratotic variety, hyperkeratotic type tinea pedis, moccasin type.

Def .: A fungal infection of the feet with strong exfoliation spots. The condition of thickening and peeling of the epidermis on the palms and soles caused by infection with dermatophytes.

Etiol.: T. red.

Lock: Soles of the feet, heels.

Clinical: There is erythema on the soles, which is not sharply demarcated from healthy skin. There are dry, thick scales covering the skin of the heel, toes and metatarsal pads. The skin is thickened, not very elastic and rough. Sometimes circular detachments of the epidermis (dyshidrosis lamellosa sicca) occur. There may be a slight erythema as the exfoliation zone reaches the edge of the foot. Toenails are also often involved. Changes may occur unilaterally.

  1. What are the symptoms of onychomycosis?

DL: The preparation lightened with KOH / DMSO enables quick detection of the fungus presence, while plating on Sabouraud’s medium enables the identification of the fungus species.

DR: Hyperkeratosis, psoriasis, skin eczema, Andrews’ pustular bacterium.

Healing: Azole and terbinafine by mouth and topical antifungal agents.

Year: Chronic, sometimes difficult to heal completely.
