Excess weight and kidney stones: why tangerines are dangerous

They, of course, create a New Year mood without fail. However, you need to be careful with this fruit so as not to make health problems.

We can count at least 15 reasons to fall in love with tangerines. They contain acids, vitamins A, B, C, D, K, as well as minerals: magnesium, iron, potassium, calcium, phosphorus and sodium. Mandarin essential oil has a calming effect, and due to the high content of ascorbic acid, the fruit also strengthens the immune system. Citrus phytoncides have antimicrobial effects, and tangerine fiber and pectins have a positive effect on digestion.

But every coin has two sides. Mandarin can hurt. How and what, says the dietitian.

Allergy

In recent years, food allergies have become more common. The most allergenic foods include citrus fruits, chocolate, strawberries, strawberries, honey, and others. And tangerines are one of the most dangerous citrus fruits in this regard. Indeed, at one time a person is able to eat a lot of them, oranges or grapefruits cannot be devoured so much.

As a result, an allergic reaction can develop – the immune system’s response to a large amount of an allergen. Or maybe food intolerance is a pathological reaction to food associated with the physiological characteristics of the body and metabolic disorders (for example, an insufficient amount of enzymes when you ate a lot of tangerines at once). The mechanisms and manifestations of these reactions are different, but the result is the same: doctors will forbid eating any citrus fruits.

Problems with digestion

Small amounts of mandarin essential oils stimulate appetite, increase the secretion of digestive juices and act as a diuretic. In large quantities, they can irritate the mucous membranes of the stomach and intestines, as well as the biliary and urinary tract. And if there are already problems with these organs, they will intensify, and chronic diseases will worsen. In almost all diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, tangerines are contraindicated in the acute period and are limited during the period of the inflammation subsiding. It is best to contact your healthcare professional for advice on whether mandarins are allowed at all.

Kidney stones

With various diseases of the urinary system, tangerines also need to be approached with caution. If the level of oxalates or kidney stones is high, if diuretics are contraindicated, the amount of tangerines should be reduced to a minimum. And again, it is worth consulting with your doctor.

Body weight gain

Mandarins stimulate appetite. Despite the fact that citrus is considered a low-calorie product, it is quite high in sugar – depending on the variety, on average 10 grams of carbohydrates in the form of simple sugars per 100 grams of product. Accordingly, there is a restriction on consumption, especially for those who are overweight. In general, it is recommended to consume no more than two servings of fruit per day. And depending on the age, these portions are different.

How much to hang in grams

Let’s make a reservation that the serving size is calculated for people who have no health problems:

Up to three years one serving – 50 grams;

· From 3 to 6 years old – 75 grams;

From 7 to 11 years old – 100 grams;

From 12 to 18 years old – 125 grams.

· For an adult – 150-250 grams.

One mandarin weighs an average of 50-60 grams. It turns out that a child under 3 years old can eat no more than one tangerine a day. 7-year-old child – no more than 2 per day. And an adult – no more than 3-4 pieces.

Is it possible to brew the peel

It is a well-known folk remedy for lowering blood sugar. The peel is boiled for 10 minutes, and then the broth is drunk.

“During transportation, tangerines are treated with various substances so that they retain their presentation, do not deteriorate, and do not succumb to fungi and parasites. There are various treatments available, including diphenyl, which is banned in many countries. It is characterized by the fact that it can penetrate through the skin to the slices of the fruit. Sulfur oxide is also used, which is a strong allergen if it enters the digestive system. Drying, brewing and making drinks from the peel is possible only if you yourself have collected the tangerines from the tree, ”warns the doctor.
