Examinations to help maintain women’s health

The success of disease treatment depends largely on early diagnosis.

There is a list of simple and at the same time available examinations that are recommended to be periodically done to a woman as a preventive measure. Our expert Marina Nakryzhskaya is sure that they will help the woman to maintain her health.

Fluorography or chest x-ray

Why do: diagnostics of tuberculosis, oncology and occupational lung diseases.

Periodicity: annually from the age of 18.

Measurement of intraocular pressure, visual acuity

Why do: determination of age-related changes, diagnosis of glaucoma.

Periodicity: From 35 years of age annually.

ECG

Why do: identification of cardiac arrhythmias, assessment of the adequacy of the blood supply to the heart. The study allows you to exclude oxygen starvation of the organ.

Periodicity: annually after 40 years in healthy women.

Densitometry

Why do: assessment of bone density for early diagnosis of osteoporosis.

Periodicity: from 45 years old – every two years.

Ultrasound screening of the abdominal cavity and pelvic organs

Why do: allows you to identify formations in the uterus or appendages, to assess the size of the bladder and its position, the presence of kidney stones and bladder.

Periodicity: Ultrasound of the small pelvis – once a year from the age of 18, ultrasound of the abdominal cavity – the frequency has not been determined.

Mammogram

Why do: diagnostics of breast diseases, control of the effectiveness of treatment of benign and malignant neoplasms.

Periodicity: From 18 to 39 years old – in the presence of seals in the chest area. Women over 40 years old – at least once every 2 years. After 50 years – once a year. Any pain and induration in the chest area is a reason for immediate examination.

Ultrasound of the mammary glands

Why do: diagnosis of breast diseases (up to 40 years of age this is a more effective diagnostic method compared to a mammogram).

Periodicity: from 18 to 39 years – annually in the absence of palpable formations.

Colonoscopy

Why do: detection of bowel cancer.

Periodicity: from 50 years – once every 5 years in individuals who are not at risk for early detection of tumors of the colon and rectum. Digestive problems, poor heredity – a reason for early examination.

HPV testing

Why do: diagnostics for the human papillomavirus. Some types of this virus are oncogenic, which means they can provoke the development of cancer.

Periodicity: from 30 to 69 years old – every 5 years.

Important addition!

In addition to the listed diagnostic methods, it is necessary to take a plasma glucose test and a glucose tolerance test. Frequency – once every three years for overweight people or if a close relative has type 2 diabetes mellitus. These studies should be completed annually for all people over 45 years old, even in the absence of risk factors.
