Plates with portraits of famous musicians are a souvenir story. They were brought from England to my friend. Since he doesn’t give a fuck about music, he wanted to throw them away, and I took them and hung them on the wall.
“This complex of buildings is a former umbrella factory, converted into a business center and apartments,” says Evgeny. – We just got a loft in it: we took it and bought it when we were looking for a room for the studio of my wife (the musician’s wife Anna Margulis is a ceramic artist. – Approx. “Antennas”). It is only 15 minutes away from our house, and at the time of purchase it was cheaper than a two-room apartment. “
This gramophone is over 50 years old. I got it as a gift. It still works. There is also a modern turntable. You can listen to everything on it – both records and discs.
“When we took up the renovation, we immediately made soundproofing here. I do not know why. Apparently, there was some premonition of horror. It was justified when they conceived the Kvartirnik program. We began to look for where to shoot it, settled on the fact that the production of ceramics is a very dirty business, it is not necessary to let your wife work in the loft, here you need to make a transfer. That is, I acted like a normal person – I took it a little. My wife began to go to study with the famous sculptor, and since 2015 we have filmed the first 48 “Kvartirniki” here.
The picture in the kitchen is a gift, what is depicted on it, no one knows. But I really like it for its interior look.
“Then about 90 people gathered here. There was nothing to breathe, everyone went crazy. Directors usually sat on the second floor. There is a large table for them. Previously, there were still two lockers, but they had to be given for restoration, because in the process of work they fell into disrepair. “
On the rack are tools, fan gifts, and vinyl. I have about 500 records. Collected everything that I listened to in childhood.
Around are my wife’s works. She makes them for herself. I started with 3D ceramic paintings.
“When we were equipping everything here, we didn’t buy a lot of furniture, except maybe a sofa. It even unfolds. Carpets, ottomans were brought in from somewhere. An old garbage cupboard with broken glass was shipped by a friend. It serves for all sorts of small items. We hung up a projector to watch movies and TV shows. We installed an air conditioner. Due to laziness, the dark film was not removed from the roof windows after the renovation. Besides, when we started filming, we realized that daylight would only interfere with us. “
A Chinese gong hangs over the entrance. He probably drives away evil spirits. I bought it myself, in Moscow and in order to hang it here. He came like a native.
“This whole floor is residential. I have neighbors, decent people. They love music and did not raise howl at the time when we played here every week. Now the program has its own studio in another place, and I visit the workshop from time to time. I rest at home, I come here to do something: play the guitars, rehearse. “
The tools here are all mine. I have a large collection of strings, maybe fifty. I bring everything that does not fit at home here. There are Portuguese guitars, Moroccan, Chinese, Georgian instruments. I buy what I like visually.
“Now we have started one internet project and started filming here again. But already with fewer people. In principle, you can live here. There is everything you need, even a nominal kitchen with a refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, coffee maker, kettle. But for the sake of beauty it is hidden by a plastic cover so that it is not visible in the frame. “
