We sometimes forget that our pets are creatures with character, intelligence and their own feelings.
True dog lovers love their four-legged friends almost more than human friends. But even with such love, we manage to cause inconvenience and discomfort to the dogs. Moreover, they, kind souls, sometimes also hide it – they are so strongly attached to us. And dogs are not able to say what they do not like. Fortunately, experts did it for them – the canine psychologists told us what dogs don’t like about people.
Hugs
No, dogs love tactile contact, and some are even willing to hug you around the clock. But some dogs consider picking them up as an attempt to dominate them and infringe on their interests. They feel trapped when unable to move. And others will not enjoy your caress at all, but stoically endure it. Yes, they are ready to endure hugs from a person they love and trust, but this does not mean that they like them.
Pay attention to your dog’s body language: pinched ears, tense posture, and difficult facial expressions indicate that he is not happy with what is happening. And it is very important to teach children to pay attention to this, otherwise the dog may snap, scare or even bite the child.
Verbosity
Not in terms of ordinary communication – the doggie is always happy to chat with you, although he does not understand a word of what you say to him. It is enough that you have a benevolent tone. Dogs don’t like verbose commands. It is impossible to train them to understand a sentence like “If you behave well, you will get a cookie”. Just a waste of time and effort. Therefore, use short keywords: sit, stand, walk, quiet. And then there will be no confusion in your communication.
Screaming and swearing
Yes, dogs need restrictions, but more benefit from training can be achieved by encouraging a pet rather than scolding him for his mistakes. Yes, everything is exactly the same as with raising children. In principle, dogs do not like loud sounds: the roar of motors, a vacuum cleaner, the rumble of thunder. They have such sensitive ears … The scream scares them, makes them worry and nervous. But what if you need to punish? For example, here’s a situation: a dog stole your socks. Do not scold her for this, but tell her to drop the loot. When the dog obeys the command, praise him.
Lack of mode
And also everything is like with children. Everybody needs the regime. Dogs have a clear daily routine that calms them down: they are calmer if they eat, walk and bathe at the same time from day to day. This does not mean that the dog will not enjoy an unplanned walk to the park or the coast, but the daily routine is what they really need.
Touching the face
All dogs are different and love different things. It is possible that your pet is just crazy about the way you pat his cheeks. But most dogs just tolerate being squeezed by the face. Especially if the caresses seem too sudden or rude to them. If you are dealing with a dog you don’t know well enough, stroking it on the neck, shoulders or back is safe.
Eye contact
Dogs don’t like being looked in the eye. Only their owners have this privilege. From everyone else, looking directly into the eyes of the dog is perceived as a threat or even an act of aggression. And they can rush to defend, even if you did not think to attack.
No sniffing
Dogs know the world by scent. Smells give them comprehensive information about what is happening around them. Just like us – social networks. If you don’t let them sniff that tree, this post, the bench and the trash can, it’s like turning off the news feed on your smartphone. Be kind to your pet, because he also needs to keep abreast of the latest events.
Suits
This is the point that the dogs are trying to endure, but they definitely do not get pleasure. When it’s cold or dirty outside, we try to dress them in warm blankets and even slippers, so as not to wash the whole evening and not mess with the dog’s cold. But clothing is something completely foreign to dogs. Over time, they, of course, get used to it, but they still have a long way to go to enjoy the dressing procedure.
Confronting fear
Many dogs are afraid of a vacuum cleaner, a veterinarian, or a particular person. Trying to overcome fear by placing the dog in a stressful situation is extremely ineffective and may even lead to the exact opposite result. The best approach to dealing with canine fear is to gradually train your dog to not be afraid. Show the vacuum cleaner at a distance when it cannot scare, reward courage and gradually close the distance. By the way, it’s time to accustom your dog to the sound of fireworks so that New Year’s Eve does not become a continuous endless nightmare for your pet.
Strong odors
Imagine a nose that is ten thousand times more sensitive to odors than yours. Or even a hundred thousand. Have you presented? And now mentally go down with such a sense of smell in the subway in the summer at rush hour. It seems that it is already impossible to imagine. Dogs cannot stand the harsh aromas of perfumes, cleaning products, air fresheners and other strong-smelling substances. Strong odors can cause them almost physical pain.
Bad mood
You don’t like it when your dog doesn’t obey, and your dog can’t stand it when you are sad. Quadrupeds perfectly feel our emotions: depression, anger, stress, sadness. For them, your bad mood is like an endless gloomy day when the sun is unable to break through the clouds. Therefore, the pet will try to cheer you up with all its might. And when he despairs, falls into depression, he will share it with you.
Loneliness
Dogs, unlike cats, are social creatures. They literally live for you and for you. If you leave him alone for long hours and even come home do not give the dog proper attention, he will become one of the saddest puppies. And perhaps he will even earn a neurosis. Try to make time for communication with your pet, since you have decided to have one. Of course, another dog or other animal can partially solve the problem of loneliness and sadness. But no one can replace you for a dog, because you are his sun.
