Every third sick leave is issued electronically. It will become mandatory from December

The number of sick leaves issued electronically is growing – in July they accounted for around 40 percent. all layoffs. E-ZLA is sent electronically to the Social Insurance Institution, thus relieving the doctor from additional duties. When issuing an exemption, most of the data is filled in automatically, thanks to which the entire process takes up to 40 seconds. Every fourth authorized doctor uses a certificate that can be used to sign and send exemptions.

– E-ZLA can be issued by a doctor who has the right to issue sick leaves and has a profile on the ZUS Electronic Services Platform (PUE ZUS). Issuing a sick leave takes only 40 seconds. When issuing an electronic certificate, a doctor performs four steps in the system, and in the case of a sick leave – six steps – says the news agency Newseria Biznes Monika Kolińska from the Customer Service Department at the Social Insurance Institution headquarters.

Issuing an e-ZLA takes much shorter than writing out a paper certificate. In the system, the doctor has access to the data of the patient, his employers and family members (if the certificate is issued for the purpose of caring for them). After entering the PESEL number, the remaining data are automatically completed by the system, and the patient’s address or the payer’s data can be selected by the doctor from the list. The system also suggests the letter code and the statistical number of the disease. The doctor himself fills in the date of incapacity for work and a note whether the sick person has to stay in bed.

The certificate issued in this manner must be electronized by a doctor within three working days.

For doctors, e-ZLA is a great help. The exemption is automatically transferred to the ZUS system and recorded in it. Therefore, the doctor does not have to deliver the exemptions to the Institute, keep a second copy or collect the so-called release blocks.

From December 1, 2018, doctors will only issue exemptions in electronic form. Currently, exemptions can still be issued on paper, but more and more doctors choose electronic ones.
