Every day we see the dramas of many families (…) The reality of treating yourself with COVID-19, especially for the elderly, is not something you would like to experience – admits prof. Joanna Zajkowska. An infectious disease specialist addresses the families of these people with an important appeal.
Vaccinations against COVID-19 in Poland. Who is the third dose for?
Six months after the full vaccination against COVID-19, a third booster dose can be used – Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki informed about the adoption of this recommendation on September 21. Deputy Minister of Health Waldemar Kraska pointed out that protection in these vaccinations – as in the case of other diseases – decreases over time. – That is why many countries decided to give the third dose. We also – on the recommendation of the Medical Council – want to offer this third dose to Poles.
Waldemar Kraska reminded that now some patients with conditions that lower immunity may take the next dose, but the government wants to expand this group. – It will be for people who work actively with patients, i.e. healthcare professionals, and people over 50 years of age – informed the deputy minister.
- Who can get vaccinated with the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine? Where to apply [WE EXPLAIN]
Prof. Joanna Zajkowska, an infectious disease specialist from the University Teaching Hospital in Białystok, admitted that setting priority groups with comorbidities would be very difficult. – A simple recommendation that a third dose can be vaccinated in a person over 50 is better, easier to receive and more readable. My only regret is that there are still people who are completely unvaccinated against COVID-19. The third dose will not help someone who has not taken the first dose – emphasizes the specialist.
Will the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine be for everyone? The doctor tells you what it depends on
When asked whether it was a matter of time to administer the third dose to all, she stressed that it depends on the epidemic situation.
– It may be that the virus mutates enough to require new vaccines with a different composition. Just like the flu. It may turn out that these vaccinations will be cyclical. We just don’t have a way to deal with this epidemic globally. If it still smolders in many places, the virus mutates in the organisms of subsequent infected. As soon as it seems to us that we are already dealing with it better, a new variant appears – said the expert.
- Dr. Sutkowski on the fourth wave: this is a pandemic of the unvaccinated.
She added that looking at the epidemic curve in Poland, it seems that the fourth wave of infections will be long and flat. – Whole families of unvaccinated people are sick. The virus hits some barriers, spreads slower, but spreads. Without consistent vaccination, this virus will accompany us all the time. Of course, he will be the most dangerous now for those who did not protect themselves against him by vaccination. However, they will lead to further mutations in their bodies. And again the level of immunity of the rest of the people responsible may have to be strengthened – explained Prof. Zajkowska.

Her experience clearly shows that each subsequent dose of the vaccine strengthens immunity. – For obvious reasons, we do not have data on vaccination reactions after the third dose. However, experiences with other vaccines give us an answer about a possible allergic reaction. If someone did not respond to the first and second doses, then they are not allergic to the ingredients of the vaccine. I do not have such concerns – she explained.
Zakaźnik: we see the dramas of many families on a daily basis. Think about yourself and your loved ones!
The expert notes that she still lacks some modifications to the vaccine campaign being conducted.
– I work with patients on the ward all the time. The really reality of being treated for COVID-19, especially for the elderly, who often have many other serious health problems, is not something you would like to experience. I appeal to the families of these people. Take care of your grandmothers and grandparents. Convince them to vaccinate. There is no battle in this matter. There is an expression of concern on our part – medics. We see the dramas of many families every day. We see patients who had not thought about vaccinating before and are now experiencing moments of immense fear. Think about yourself and your loved ones – he asks.
– COVID-19 vaccines are available and available. There are many countries in the world where one dose is divided in half. Let us not allow us to dispose of these vaccines – appeals prof. Zajkowska.
