The fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic is hitting European countries increasingly harder. At the moment, in Poland there are practically no restrictions resulting from the epidemic situation. In other countries, however, it is quite different. Austria introduces lockdown and compulsory vaccinations. The restrictions known to us from previous waves are in force in Slovakia.

The coronavirus. Austria – lockdown

15 thousand 145 infections November 18, 55 deaths. Austria was the first country in Europe to decide to introduce a lockdown for unvaccinated people. From November 15, they cannot leave their home without a very good reason. The list of acceptable reasons for leaving the place of residence includes medical visits, shopping, and religious practices. The unvaccinated can still go to church.

What’s more, from next Monday the lockdown will cover everyone, including those who are vaccinated.

Coronavirus. Germany – every land has different rules

In Germany, the fourth wave is very dynamic. On November 18, there were 64 thousand new infections. 164. 19 people died from COVID-261. The restrictions in force in Germany vary from state to state. In some of them, people without a covid passport cannot enter restaurants, participate in mass events or gatherings. In others, a certificate is not needed – a negative coronavirus test result is instead honored.

Coronavirus. Czech Republic – certificates and tests are needed

November 17 was a record day in the Czech Republic – 22 jobs were found then. 507 new infections, more than in any previous wave of the coronavirus outbreak in the country. On November 18, the daily number was lower and amounted to 14 thousand. 134. 76 people infected with COVID-19 died that day.

Due to the epidemic situation, the Czech government decided to introduce certain restrictions. Czechs cannot go to a hairdresser or enter a restaurant, unless they present one of several admissible documents. This can be a covid passport confirming full vaccinations or recovery status, or a negative coronavirus (antigenic or PCR) test. Tests cannot be older than 24 hours.

Coronavirus. Slovakia – forced tests, closed hotels

8 thousand 342 new infections, 38 deaths – this is the summary of the epidemic in Slovakia on November 18. At our neighbors, unvaccinated people who work stationary are obliged to undergo compulsory tests for the presence of coronavirus. As for restrictions, they are introduced regionally, based on the severity of the epidemic. Currently, more than half of the country is in the third group – the most severe restrictions apply there. All hotels are closed, as are restaurants that can only serve take-out meals. Only vaccinated people may participate in weddings, funerals or mass events.

In Slovakia, swimming pools remain open, but there is a strict limit there – a maximum of 10 vaccinated people can stay there.

Coronavirus. Iceland – bars closed from 22.00

Iceland is one of those European countries where citizens got vaccinated without any additional incentives. Despite the very high level of vaccination and not very alarming numbers (on November 18, there were 130 new infections, no deaths were recorded), it was also decided to introduce restrictions here.

All restaurants and bars on the island close at 22.00 p.m., and a maximum of 75% of swimming pools or ski resorts may be occupied. provided places. Supermarkets can accommodate up to 50 people, similar to larger gatherings. Citizens must keep a distance of at least 1 m, and when this is not possible, they must cover their mouth and nose.

Coronavirus. The fourth wave in Europe

European countries are adopting a variety of strategies to address the fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic. In France, a few months ago, for example, serious difficulties were introduced for the unvaccinated, which led the French to massively go to vaccination points. In Italy, covid passports are thoroughly checked and necessary, for example, to eat dinner in a restaurant. There, wearing masks in public spaces (indoors, but also during sports events) is obligatory.

When it comes to Poland, experts say directly that we are following the “Swedish model”.

– If we do not introduce restrictions, we do not limit people’s social activity, we implement, in a sense, the Swedish variant of exposure to infection (natural immunization). However, the vaccinated are safe, and people who do not want to be vaccinated do it at their own risk – said Dr. Aneta Afelt from the COVID-19 Team at the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences in an interview with Medonet.
