Estazolam Polfarmex is a drug that has a strong anticonvulsant, sedative, anxiolytic, hypnotic and muscle relaxant effect, a benzodiazepine derivative. Estazolam Polfarmex – indications
Estazolam Polfarmex is indicated for the acute, short-term treatment of sleep disorders:
- problems falling asleep,
- frequent waking up at night,
- early morning awakening.
Estazolam Polfarmex and contraindications
Contraindications to the use of Estazolam Polfarmex are:
- allergy to any of the ingredients or other benzodiazepines muscle weakness (Myastenia gravis),
- severe respiratory failure,
- pregnancy and breastfeeding,
- sleep apnea syndrome,
- severe liver failure,
- angle-closure glaucoma.
Drug dosage
Estazolam Polfarmex is in the form of tablets to be taken orally. Use the drug as short as possible (about 7-10 days). Some cases may require long-term treatment. In patients with impaired renal and / or hepatic function, it may be necessary to reduce the dose of the preparation, which must be reduced gradually.
- Adults: usually 1-2 mg 30 minutes before bedtime.
- People over 65: your doctor will likely recommend 1/2 the usual dose.
Estazolam Polfarmex – warnings
- People taking Estazolam Polfarmex for a long time should be under the supervision of a doctor.
- Long-term use of the preparation may cause physical and mental dependence. This risk increases with increasing dose and duration of drug use, and in alcohol and drug abusers.
- After abrupt discontinuation of the drug, withdrawal symptoms may occur, such as: insomnia, headaches, muscle pain, increased anxiety and tension, psychomotor agitation, states of confusion and irritability. Occasionally, depersonalization (a sense of personality change), derealization (change in the perception of reality), auditory hyperalgesia, numbness and tingling in the limbs, sensitivity to light, noise and touch, hallucinations or seizures (in severe cases) may occur.
- Caution should be exercised in patients with mental illness and those following overdose detoxification treatments, e.g. with drugs.
- Particular caution should be exercised in people over 65 years of age with hepatic and / or renal insufficiency, with respiratory disorders. It is recommended in this group of patients to reduce the recommended initial dose and to adjust the dose individually, depending on the patient’s condition.
- The elderly are more prone to side effects, especially problems with orientation and motor coordination.
- The preparation may cause anterograde amnesia, the risk of which increases simultaneously with the increase in the dose taken.
- In the event of: anxiety, agitation, irritability, aggression, delusions, fury attacks, nightmares, hallucinations, psychosis, inappropriate behavior and other behavioral disorders, consult a physician who will recommend discontinuation of the treatment and inform about further treatment.
- The drug should not be administered to children and adolescents under 18 years of age. years of age, as there is no information on the safety and effectiveness of use in this group of people.
- During long-term use of the preparation, periodic blood tests (complete blood counts with smear) and urinalysis should be performed.
- People with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, primary lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medicine because it contains lactose.
- Estazolam has a major influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
- Do not drive or use machines during the use of the preparation and for up to 3 days after the end of treatment.
Estazolam Polfarmex – side effects
Taking Estazolam Polfarmex may cause the following side effects:
- the following may occur: daytime sleepiness, headache, drowsiness, dizziness, asthenia, constipation, dry mouth, anxiety, abnormal coordination, nausea, fatigue, malaise, general weakness, nervousness, abnormal thinking, confusion, prolonged time reaction,
- rarely may occur: palpitations, change in appetite, vomiting, flatulence, increased thirst, muscle cramps, joint and muscle pain, anterograde amnesia, apathy, emotional lability, sleep disturbances, cough, asthma, rash, hives, visual disturbances, change in taste, menstrual disorders, occasionally cardiac arrhythmia, fainting, changes in the blood picture (leukopenia, agranulocytosis), weight change, ataxia, decreased libido, paradoxical reactions,
- Elderly patients may develop neurological symptoms (fatigue, impaired coordination of movements, disturbance of skeletal muscle tone). These symptoms can cause falls and bone fractures.
