Estazolam Espefa is a drug that has a strong anticonvulsant, sedative, anxiolytic, hypnotic and muscle relaxant effect, a benzodiazepine derivative. The drug is indicated for the treatment of sleep disorders, difficulty falling asleep, frequent night wake-ups. Estazolam Espefa is recommended for acute, short-term treatment of sleep disorders:

Contraindications to the use of Estazolam Espefa are:

  1. allergy to any ingredient of the preparation or other benzodiazepines muscle weakness (Myastenia gravis),
  2. severe respiratory failure,
  3. pregnancy and breastfeeding,
  4. sleep apnea syndrome,
  5. severe liver failure,
  6. angle-closure glaucoma.

Dosage of the preparation

Estazolam Espefa is in the form of capsules to be taken by mouth. The preparation should be taken for the shortest possible time (about 7-10 days). Some cases require longer treatment with the preparation. The dose of the drug may need to be reduced in patients with renal and / or hepatic impairment. You should reduce the portion gradually.

  1. Adults: usually 1-2 mg 30 minutes before bedtime.
  2. People over 65: your doctor will likely recommend 1/2 the usual dose.

Estazolam Espefa – warnings

  1. People taking Estazolam Espefap for a long time should be under the supervision of a doctor.
  2. Long-term use of the preparation may cause physical and mental dependence. The risk increases with increasing dose and duration of use, and in alcohol and drug abusers.
  3. After abrupt discontinuation of the drug, withdrawal symptoms may occur, such as: insomnia, headaches, muscle pain, increased anxiety and tension, psychomotor agitation, states of confusion and irritability. Occasionally, depersonalization (a sense of personality change), derealization (change in the perception of reality), auditory hyperalgesia, numbness and tingling in the limbs, sensitivity to light, noise and touch, hallucinations or seizures (in severe cases) may appear.
  4. Caution should be exercised in patients with mental illness and those following overdose detoxification treatments, e.g. with drugs.
  5. Particular caution should be exercised in people over 65 years of age with hepatic and / or renal insufficiency, with respiratory disorders. It is recommended in this group of patients to reduce the recommended initial dose and to adjust the dose individually, depending on the patient’s condition.
  6. The elderly are more prone to side effects, especially disorientation and motor coordination disorders.
  7. In the event of: anxiety, agitation, irritability, aggression, delusions, fury attacks, nightmares, hallucinations, psychosis, inappropriate behavior and other behavioral disorders, consult a physician who will recommend discontinuation of the treatment and inform about further treatment.
  8. Do not give the drug to children and adolescents under 18 years of age, as there is no information on safety and efficacy in this group of people.
  9. During long-term use of the preparation, periodic blood tests (complete blood counts with smear) and urinalysis should be performed.
  10. People with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, primary lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medicine because it contains lactose.
  11. Estazolam has a major influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
  12. Do not drive or use machines during the use of the preparation and for up to 3 days after the end of treatment.

Estazolam Espefa – side effects

Treatment with Estazolam Espefa may cause the following side effects:

  1. common symptoms: daytime sleepiness, headache, drowsiness, dizziness, asthenia, nervousness, thinking abnormal, confusion, prolonged reaction time, nausea, constipation, anxiety, dry mouth, malaise, fatigue, general weakness, fainting increased thirst
  2. rarely the following may occur: emotional lability, paradoxical reactions (states of psychomotor agitation, insomnia, irritability, delusions, nightmares, hallucinations, psychosis, behavior change), rash, urticaria, palpitations, cardiac arrhythmia, anterograde amnesia, apathy, sleep disorders, ataxia , decreased libido (decreased libido), vomiting, gas, change in appetite, change in taste, change in body weight, muscle spasms, pain in joints and muscles, cough, asthma, visual disturbances, changes in blood picture (leukopenia, agranulocytosis),
  3. in the elderly: neurological symptoms (fatigue, impaired coordination of movements, disturbance of skeletal muscle tone) may occur. These symptoms can cause falls and dangerous bone fractures.
